It has been to -40 here this winter, but -60 I cannot even imagine.

I was in -50F (-45C) ambient once in Fairbanks, Alaska.
    I think in '94 or '95, can't remember.
    No wind, thank God.
That is the coldest I have ever been in (although I have been in colder wind chill temps several times in North Dakota).

To be honest, the -50 wasn't that bad because it was so incredibly dry up there, and there was very little wind.
You couldn't have exposed skin for very long, but as long as you were covered you were not very uncomfortable.

I think its just the wind that really gets to you. It can be -30 and calm and sunny and I might not even complain as long as my car starts. But when there is a windchill, there is no chance at staying warm

I left for the Army in Feb. of '94.
I believe we were hitting -40.
I remember all state offices and schools were closed in ND and MN.
I also remember we went 30 days w/o the temp going above 0.

    It was cold as hell.

    It was cold as hell.

That was when my wife and I discovered the whole throwing the warm water into the air and watching it turn to powder deal. She had gone to Grand forks for some training and was up there for the big snow storm and the start of the cold.

We got rain here so everything iced up and then the temp dropped, what a bitch.

I don't remember the year, but it was so cold in Northern North Dakota that on the opening day of fishing season (May 15th) I drilled through nearly 3 feet of ice to open the season.

I would pay to see that warm water turn to powder...Here in the Mighty MO we have some fucked up weather. It goes from Tornado warnings on the Saturday after Christmas(i'm not joking) to a winter weather advisery two days later. Fucking Missssery, can't wait till it's 90 degrees and 100% humidity......
