Are you thinking what i'm thinking?!? Annexation of Puerto Rico, baby!!I'de like to see us develope some trick plays to take advantage of the times when the other team is that 9 man stack against our Offense.....I would think our coaches could dream up a few good ones for that situation.. I know I have a couple in mind myself that would work I bet...

Puetro Rico would fight us tooth and nail.
And why wouldn't they?
Currently they enjoy all the benefits of being a state without having to pay a dime of federal taxes...

Re: Will we see unorthodox tactics in the NFL this year ?
I think trick plays work best when they are used sparingly, whenever such a play is called too many times the opposition (if properly coached) will sniff it out pretty quickly. If the NFL is too conservatively coached It's probably because the HC's know it's their necks on the line if they start calling unorthodox plays that cost games. If they get beat playing the percentages fans and owners will be more kind than if they lose on a failed trick play.

It would be cool to see the steelers run an 'option package' with Dennis Dixon this year. Who cares if he gets hurt he's a backup

Yeah I am not a big fan either. I had someone tell me once (very seriously) that Mewelde should be throwing the ball 5-10times a game. That kinda of stuff rarely works and it usually only works once.I kindof lump that into "Trick Plays".
Not a big fan of them.
Kindof think of it along the lines of Slash, if we need to make a catch we should put a WR on the field and not a QB.
That said it seems the play calling has definetly taken good advantage of trick plays the last two years. 5-15 trick plays a season seems about right to me. It forces the other team to play honest and on their heels but you can't rely on trick plays, you have to be able to move the ball consistantly running your basic pass and run plays.
Remember when Carolina ;tried to do the lateral on the kickoff and it cost them the game? That was sweet. ;D

That's why I love college ball. They use some crazy formations/plays/personnel in there. It makes it very exciting.

I think we will see an increase in the "hook and ladder" play on the sidelines.

I actually really like trick plays... im not saying run like 5 a game but one or two would be nice.... I think when u insert a trick play into the offense it gets the who team fired up... and remember during are winning streak during the season we had at least ran one trick play... it just helps keep the defense off balance not knowing what they offense could do...I kindof lump that into "Trick Plays".

But the one game we didnt run a trick play was the Redskins game... and i was calling for one because one big play could of really helped us out...
So i say, you put a trick play in every week and if u think the play we bet the defense there running, run the play and see what can happen

Re: Will we see unorthodox tactics in the NFL this year ?
Sure ... we will see a share of trick plays ... you know that you will see some halfback passes from LT and we will probably see some halfback/WR passes on our own team.
But i general stuff like this does not work or someone would already be doing it. This is not college, running tricky option like offenses and stuff DOES NOT WORK. These players are too fast, too big and in general too smart. There will always be innovations that work and keep both sides of the ball going back and forth, but there will not be any team very successfully running an offense based solely on tricks.
By the way ... you won't see pitchers moving to right and coming back into the game anytime soon in the Major Leagues. It is TERRIBLE for a pitchers arm ... hell, you barely even see it at other levels of play.

While, to many trick plays can screw you over, one trick play every game or two can get the team fired up, and keep the defence wondering about what you're going to do next...If the play fails, yeah, it sucks, but if a trick play fails, its doesn't exactly take away as much confidence as the confidence gained on a succesful play.
With our offense, we don't usually throw a deep bomb, or huge plays like that, so the trick plays are usually even less expected out of us IMO...We definately have the weapons to do some crazy plays IMO...
I liked the amount we ran last year, there's a few games where i wish we'd thrown some in there, but can't make them too predictable by doing too many i suppose.
