Why Lions blew it taking Calvin Johnson

Why Lions blew it taking Calvin Johnson

Is everybody finally ready to concede what’s now painfully obvious? The Lions blew it when they drafted Calvin Johnson last year with the second overall pick instead of offensive tackle Joe Thomas or running back Adrian Peterson....

Very nice read my friend.
Thanks.

The underlying message is irrefutable. Wide receivers aren’t building blocks for success. They’re merely supportive components.
Watch how the tackles and defensive lineman come off the board this year.

The Lions are headed downward.
I didn't realize you could go further down than the cellar of the NFC North.

I am so glad he did not fall to us because I wanted him. I did not think Peterson would fall to us. So happy he did!

I don't think it was a bad pick at all

Roy Williams and CJ make a great 1 & 2

I tend to agree they make a great tandum.
The article holds truth to it as well.
In order for WRs to shine you need up front blocking to execute well.
So I do see both sides of the coin here.
Look at 2 good WRs in Moss and Porter and they couldn't do anything in Oakland becasue the QB had about 0.7 seconds to throw the ball (exageration).
Seriously though we all know the game starts up front but even with out the blocking the Lions were and will still be a dangerous team with the WRs they have.
Think about it.
I don't care what your line is you still can hardly stack the box when you have Williams, Johnson, Furrey, McDonald as WRs.
This year they would be stupid not to upgrade their line because that's the last piece of the puzzle for their offense

They got a few holes actually.. But I agree with you

I don't think Tatum Bell will be any good.. Maybe if they add another back for a 1-2 punch

No TE

And no FB

What? Say it again louder so Marrdro can hear. That's it in a nutshell, but I don't believe our line is there yet. You put a decent QB, doesn't have to be a superstar, behind that line & the receivers will get the ball.

Then that opens up the running lanes for AD.

It also takes more time for a WR to make an impact than a RB or OT (assuming they're all top end selections.)
Calvin will probably be a better all around player this year.
I totally think DET needs to go OT badly, but that they will either go RB or try to fix one of their defensive problems.
Marinelli wants to play defense and run the ball, that's why they fired Martz.
KJones is gone and Tatum is really only a change of pace back...my guess is Mendenhall given the questions about when Stewert will be healthy.
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

You crack me up.
I was one of the few that pinged on line play last year.
The problem isn't talent, just execution.
With the exception of the possible loss of Big Mac all the starters will be back and execution will be better.

The difference between you and I is that I think we have the talent there.
You don't.
