The Who to perform at Super Bowl XLIV

Report: The Who will rock Super Bowl XLIV

SI.com's Hot Clicks breaks the news this morning that The Who will be performing during halftime of Super Bowl XLIV...
This is a horrible choice.
Seriously, while I appreciate classic rock, the Who were good in the 60s and 70s - and unlike other recent artists like Petty and Springsteen, have not produced anything new in nearly 30 years.

Who picks the performer anyway?
It has gone down hill two years in a row now.

Would you rather have The Who or Up with People?

They want rock but non-controversial.

I would rather have a band that has more than 50% of its original members still alive and didn't do a fairwell tour 20 years ago.

Funny comment from the PFT blog about this:

I basically agree with everyone on this one. No, we don't need to see Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers at halftime, but for the love of Christ, can we get someone that has been relevant in the last decade or so? Or at least a group that has more than 2 living members? Who is it going to be next year? The Beatles? The Ramones?

I agree, not a great choice. They do want people to focus on the game, not the halftime festivities, just ask the coordinator regarding the janet jackson fiasco.
However, the selection may be a bit thin also. While the weather in minn. will be crappy, alot of 'GOOD' bands will be on tour in the south, or even europe. Then again, maybe some of the prestige has gone out of playing the SB. You scramble to get out there, get the lighting set up, any dancers or crowd they bring in etc.

Yeah, they've had older artists every year since JT and Janet Jackson. McCartney, Tom Petty, Springsteen. Still a bit cautious when I don't think they need to be, it's been over half a decade.

Re: The Who to perform at Super Bowl XLIV

I remember back in the 'bud bowl' days.
Also, MTV used to run a clock, while playing 'beavis and butthead'. *Fart knocker* LOL
I think FOX used to do the same thing with the simpsons. Those were the days.

Bud Bowl I XXIII 1989 Budweiser 27, Bud Light 24 Bob Costas & Paul Maguire
An alternate ending of the first Bud Bowl was a cutaway to the movie Heidi. This was a reference to the Heidi Game.[1]

Bud Bowl II XXIV 1990 Budweiser 36, Bud Light 34 Terry Bradshaw & Brent Musburger

Bud Bowl 3 XXV 1991 Bud Light 23, Budweiser 21 Don Meredith, Keith Jackson, Chris Berman
Bud Bowl III was actually between Budweiser vs Bud Light with Bud Dry as their star QB for Bud Light. The end of the game was a parody of The Play, from the Cal-Stanford game in 1982.

Bud Bowl IV XXVI 1992 Budweiser 27, Bud Light 24 Chris Berman

Bud Bowl V XXVII 1993 Budweiser 35, Bud Light 31 Ahmad Rashad & Karen "Duff" Duffy Joe Namath was the coach of the Budweiser team, and Corbin Bernsen was the coach of the Bud Light team.

Bud Bowl VI XXVIII 1994 Bud Light 20, Budweiser 14 Marv Albert Mike Ditka was the coach of Budweiser team, and Bum Phillips was coach of the Bud Light team. Bud Bowl VI featured the first appearance by a can of beer in the game. The can scored a touchdown, but was ejected from the Bud Bowl shortly thereafter for excessive celebration and foul language.

Bud Bowl VII XXIX 1995 Budweiser 26, Bud Light 24 Chris Berman

Bud Bowl 8 XXXI 1997 Budweiser 27, Bud Light 24 Howie Long & Ronnie Lott
