What number will Reggie Bush wear?

It has been noted that Reggie Bush has petitioned the NFL in an attempt to wear the number 5 as a running back. I understand the whole idea of why the NFL has the different number ranges assigned to the different positions. However, I think that the league should allow Reggie to wear his number 5. He is the front man for a struggling team (and city) and has a serious desire to wear it. I honestly do not know why he is so attached to the number. The question I have is why wouldn't the NFL allow this? They have denied it before, but why? The only really effective aspect of having the numbers set up the way they are is to determine who the eligiblable receivers are (that is why they have to anounce when a lineman is eligiblable).

I guess that only QB's wear the #5 jerseys, so I doubt that he will be able to wear it.. If they change the rules for him, there may be alot of pissed off players in the league. I really don't see anything wrong with it. I mean if our guys can wear #18, and #19 as recievers, then a RB should be able to wear #5.

The saints signed Bennett earlier this offseason, isnt he wearing 23? Oh well, even if he is im sure he would give to Bush if the price is right.

I don't think they'll let him do it

they already have certain number ranges assigned to different positions, etc

as we all know, QB's are usually in the 1-15 or so range. LB's are 50-59 and WR usually are in the 80-89 range, but recently WR's have been allowed to wear numbers in the teens, so maybe they'll cave in and let Reggie Bush wear #5

Single-digits are reserved for Kickers/Punters/QBs. This is to help the referees more easily identify players (or so says the NFL).
