Weekend was filled with refs making the right calls

The NFL's Officiating office is a happy place these days. There have been eight playoff games, and nothing like the storm of controversy that surrounded last year's Super Bowl. There were, in fact, a couple of little noticed calls last weekend that were greatly appreciated by the officiating fraternity because they were difficult -- and correct -- plus one rather chintzy one.
Good article from Dr. Z.

Re: Weekend was filled with refs making the right calls
The refs did actually do a pretty good job last weekend.
I actually disagreed with the whole "not grasping the face mask" thing, but I guess if that is the way the rule is written...

I guess you know that from now on you won't see regular crews that worked together during the season working the championship and Super Bowl games. They'll be all star crews, picked by a rating system that grades all the officials in every position, like the best back judges, best field judges, and so forth. The top graded guys work the Super Bowl.
I think this is a big reason why the officiating in the Super Bowl is questionable.
Top officials or not, they are working with people who they haven't worked with all year, and that can affect them.
Instead, I think they should award the superbowl to the best officiating team of the season.
