Vikings have cakewalk and Packers have difficult schedule...

Funny how the Packers have such a tough schedule and the Vikings have a cakewalk according to this author.

NFL Schedule Breakdown

5 Teams that Were Brutalized by the NFL Schedule Maker

3)...3)

Green Bay Packers – When you look at the NFL schedule, you can begin to see why Brett Favre didn’t think returning to the playoffs based on the development of the team would be enough to ensure a playoff birth.
Here is their schedule from Week 3 through 11.
3) Dallas, 4) at Tampa Bay, 5) Atlanta, 6)

at Seattle, 7) Indianapolis, 8) Bye, 9) at Tennessee, 10) at Minnesota, 11) Chicago, 12) at New Orleans.
5 Teams that Were Spared by the NFL Schedule Maker

5) Minnesota Vikings – Minnesota has a schedule where their opponents won .551 of their games in 2007.
Many people will not have them on the easy column.
However, I go further than just looking at percentages.
They get Green Bay on the road in Week 1.
That is huge, seeing the Packers will be playing their first game without Brett Favre.
They are retiring Favre’s number.
Rodgers is going to be as nervous as he ever will be.
What better time to play Green Bay on the road and potentially steal an early season divisional win on the road?
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

This guy is basing this on the fact that Brett Favre is no longer in Green Bay. You might as well break down every team by addition and subtractions.
:

While the numbers suggest that Minnesota has a tough schedule, the retirement of Brett Favre is not factored into that.

I pseudo agree with this.
Winning % from the previous year are not very good indicators of performance in the current year.

I think that is the point, isn't it?

Fair enough, but the Vikes play 12 of the same opponents as the Packers and 2 games head-to-head with the Pack, as I'm sure most on here are aware.
The only difference in the schedule is that the Packers play the Cowboys and Seahawks, whereas we play the Giants and Cardinals.
Big deal.

The article is knocking on the timing of specific games.
I just don't know about that.
So what if you get the four 'best' teams on your schedule in a row or spread out?
Who knows whether a team is going to be 'hot' at the beginning or end of the season?
The only thing I see as being a bad deal is getting a really early bye, and then having a lot of short weeks.

So not knocking on your comment, but on the application of that principle by the author of this article.
The Vikes/Packers thing and then the far too common reference to 'easy' games and victories that seem 'certain' all add up to a poor analysis.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

I, for one, think that we got the Pack at the best possible time.
I hate playing the Packers in Green Bay in December.
Way too much advantage to them.
And I also think that the order of games plays a lot into your momentum for the playoffs.

If you were going to go 9-7 and make the playoffs, would you rather start the season 9-0 and lose the final seven to back your way in?
Or would you rather start 0-7 and win the final 9 and enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the NFL?
When you play certain games has a lot to do with that.

That Atlanta game is going to be hell for Green Bay! Tough schedule because they are going to suck and he knows it. He already virtually admits they don't stand a chance in the Monday night opener.
Let's face it. It will be a tough schedule for a team that fears Atlanta.
What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. Its the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"
