Using the PP.O Search Function
Because of the amount of articles and duplicate articles being posted, we need a little training on how to use the PP.O search feature.
This is a tutorial that will help you find if something has been posted or a topic is being discussed.
It will also help the forums stay neat and organized.
1.
Select the "Search" tab at the top of the page:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/ultravikingfan/first.jpg
2.
Enter the word you will be searching for in the text box.
**Note** use words that are contained in the article that are not very common in order to get better/more precise results. Then click the "Advanced Search" link:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/ultravikingfan/second.jpg
3.
Now click in the box that states, "Search in topic subjects only".
In the Search Order select the dropdown arrown and select "Most Recent Topics First".
Click the "Choose a board to search in, or search all" link and then select the forums that your topic will most likely have been posted.
Then click "Search".

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/ultravikingfan/third.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/ultravikingfan/fourth.jpg
4.
Scan your search results and see what matches you are given.
Sometimes it may take a little while.
Using a "not-so-common" word will help you.
Your search word will be highlighted in yellow:

***TIPS***
If there is any article titled, "Childress attemps to readjust offense" it would be wise to use the word readjust as your search word because it is not a common word.
Also, if the recent topic/event is fairly new use the "Message Age" boxes and set 0-5 days or so.
Good luck.
It may take some practice but hopefully we can eliminate some of the clutter and locks.

Here's a search tip:
If you are posting an article from a general source (ESPN, The Onion, spankme.com), use the Advanced Search option to search for the actual URL of the article, rather than your interpretation of the title or the subject.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Re: Using the PP.O Search Function
Is there something wrong with the search? I searched via PPO and got nothing for the topic Official Randy Moss. I searched via google and found it right away. It was the first one listed. Weird.

You can't search by topic anymore & if you search for "keywords" you'll only be shown one instance of it per thread instead of all the instances of the "keywords" used in that thread.

If you check the "Search in Topic Subject" box it usually does the trick. However, it can't find some threads. I'm not entirely sure why."marstc09" wrote:

For example:

(note the box checked)
My results:

Only three threads, and no "The Official Randy Moss Thread."
But if I simply search "Randy Moss" I get 17 pages of threads, but for the most part nothing with his name in the topic.

sure hope you are not instructing me on how to use the "advanced search" feature.

I've been using it for 4 years now using all those features including the "Search in Topic Subject" & "Search Order".
BTW, you might want to change the message age setting to something less than 9,999 days (27 years). The higher that number is set, the longer the search takes. You want to include the thread origination date in that "number of days" search & not simply the last post date.
Also, uncheck the "Check All" box & check only those forums that the thread would be in.

Just an FYI. For that thread just go to the "General NFL Discussion" forum. That thread is a "sticky" in that forum & is always listed near the top with all the other "sticky's", just as the "Official Tarvaris Jackson" thread is a "sticky" in the Vikings Forum. Is there something wrong with the search? I searched via PPO and got nothing for the topic Official Randy Moss. I searched via google and found it right away. It was the first one listed. Weird.

I'm not trying to instruct you, I just saw a question that I knew I could answer. The topic subject search works, just not very well. I too have been using the advanced search for 4 years."Mr" wrote:

;D
I know about the dates and forum check boxes. I usually do 1500 days if I can't remember when something occurred. I was just trying to show the one check box.
