Re: Troy Polamalu Thinks The New NFL Is 'A Pansy Game'

Heck yeah. The NFL has lost its edge. Those of us who grew up in the late 70s and 80s know what Troy is talking about. I hardly watch any of the games anymore, just because the league has taken the fun out of the game. Players are afraid to hit people because they might fined. And that whole "HorseCollar" rule....please.

I wonder how the reallygreat players from back in the day; Jack Lambert/Jack Tatum/Joe Greene/Alan Page/Randy White, just to name a few, would deal with all of these changes.

Yeah, I know! Like when Winfield returned the ball on a blocked field goal for a TD. He had to pay like 10 000 dollars for just jumping on the goal lol.

...Ditka made some very interesting and pointed remarks on the matter.

"I said a long time ago if you want to change the game take the mask off the helmet," he said. "It will change the game a lot. If you want to change the game and get it back to where people aren't striking with the head and using the head as a weapon, take the mask off the helmet.

"A lot of pretty boys aren't going to stick their face in there. If you're going to take hitting out of football, you might as well just call it soccer. That's what I believe. A lot of people will be disappointed I said that, but football is what it is. [Vince] Lombardi said it a long time ago. Football is not a contact game. Dancing is a contact game. Football is a collision sport."

Scoring a touchdown, followed by a celebration consisting of leaping in the air, lifting the ball over the horizontal portion of the goal post, and manually powering the ball down to the ground(also referred to as a "slam dunk" or "dunking") is considered legal by the National Football League.

Re: Troy Polamalu Thinks The New NFL Is 'A Pansy Game'

Troy is partially right. The game is played at higher speeds now so the hits are potentially more vicious but the rules are getting out of hand. I don't like a lot of the fumble rules .... you used to have to hang on to the ball ... not anymore. I don't like the grounding rules ... if you throw it away to avoid a sack it should be grounding. Rules should be consistant for all players ... no special protection for different positions. Man up and play ball!

Celebrations.... get rid of them all... it's anti-team and has no place in football. Last I heard it was still a team sport. We don't need an individual chicken neck strut after every play.
