    Tripping?

Maybe some of you smarter football fans can help me out. On the opening kickoff in the Lions/Packers game the Packers kicker got flagged for tripping when he was trying to make a tackle. What the fuck is up with this? He was trying to tackle him. How can he be called for tripping? I never heard of this before.

Tripping - A person cannot trip somebody to block or tackle them.

    NFL rules say:
Tripping anyone, including the runner, has a 10 yard penalty.
A leg whip carries a 15 yard penalty.
Inadvertant tripping is NOT a penalty.

How does that make sense? How can a guy take our Petersons knee like that but when the kicker did it he basically was trying to tackle the guy. I am really confused here.

I think they say tripping is sticking out a foot or a leg to take a guy out when he's running.

The kicker dove at his legs with his arms not legs. I understand that you can't do it with your legs.
