    Re: Top 5: Running Backs

Don't forget to mention the fact that Williams shares carriers with Foster, which obviously makes it easier to stay fresh. Portis, however, carries the full load for the Skins and STILL puts up the numbers.

Zeus desperately in need some of back up right about now.

I haven't written one word concerning Williams v. Portis.
I'm merely stating that I do not agree with your contention that Portis is a top-3 RB in this league.

lol true, I just don't get why you seem to base EVERYTHING off statistics. Yes, stats are important because it's proof, but it doesn't tell the whole story.

Anyone who has watched Clinton Portis play, will agree that he is EASILY one of the best blocking backs in the league. That's not even debate-able.

Now he might not be super effective in the passing game, but that has a lot to do with the Skins ineffective passing game.

Add on the fact that like Peterson, Portis see's many 8 man fronts do to his team's poor passing attack, and yet STILL puts up the numbers, that clearly makes him a top 3 back.

I don't base everything off of stats.
I just use those to make a point when being subjective just isn't good enough.
And you forget that I used to live 5 minutes from Redskins Park.
I've seen plenty of Portis live.

And, in 2009, he's not one of the top-3 RBs in the league, IMHO.
I'd say those 3 are AD, Westbrook and LT, although LT could fall out of that group if he doesn't bounce back from a sub-par 2008.

I'd put Portis in the next tier, along with Forte, Slaton, Williams, Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson and Brandon Jacobs.

One thing that people forget about RBs is that they peak early in their careers.
Young RBs with young legs seem to have better years than old RBs.
That's a big part of why I hesitate on Portis - and LT.
