#4 Walter Payton (1975-1987 Chicago Bears)
#5 Emmitt Smith (1990-2002 Dallas Cowboys, 2003-2004 Arizona Cardinals)
#6 Marshall Faulk (1994-1998 Indianapolis Colts, 1999-present St. Louis Rams)
#7 Frank Gifford (1952-1960, 1962-1964 New York Giants)

#10 Mike Alstott (1996-present Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
How about some reasons with those picks. You left out some really big names. Dorsett, Dickerson, Campbell
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
It's very difficult to argue with the top five.
I think 6-10 are very debatable.
Where's Dickerson?
Good topic though, you can turn top-ten anything into a fun discussion.
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
Samkon Gado;with Ahman Green a close 2nd.
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
yeah u can't leave out Dickerson, and i'm sure that after i have a coffee and wake up i'll think of some others.
if you wanted to add players STILL playing.. i'd have 2 seperate lists.. 1 retired, and 1 playing.

Alstott?
More like the most popular, not the best.
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
I could think of at least 5 RB's that should have been there instead of Alstott.
Chuck Foreman for one.........I also think Jim Brown should be in the #1 slot.....
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
No Dickerson and no Campbell? What about Gale Sayers or Chuck Foreman? No way Alstott should be ahead of those guys! I don't even thnk Alstott is top 100!

Those are 4 I could think of also Ltrey33..... How about even Curtis Martin?
I think he would and should have even made the list before Alstott would....
Re: Top 10 Pro Running Backs of All-Time
Franco Harris,
He barely broke a thousand yards
every year, I think he only broke 1200 once, IMO him and Joe Namath are 2 of the most over rated players in the history of the NFL, Namath even moreso.
The only reason anyone remembers him is the Immaculate Reception(which should have been an incomplete pass btw, it hit Fuqua, and the NFL rules then were there were no double touches) there is no way I would put him in front of anyone on that list.....
except for Alstott. Here's mine
1: Barry Sanders
2: Jim Brown
3: Emmitt Smith
4: Walter Payton
5: Marshall Faulk
6: Eric Dickerson
7: The Juice, Orenthal James Simpsonn
8: Curtis Martin
9: Tony Dorsett
10: John Riggins
