Should we be using the word elite or like a Tiered system:

    IMHO

Tier 1- Multiple Years of Consistent Dominance
    Pats
    Colts
    Chargers

Tier 2- Regular Winning Seasons, post season struggles
    Boys
    Jags

Tier 3- Ready to become a big time show (in Steelers' case, get back to the top)
    Vikings
    Steelers
    Browns
    Titans

    I think that's a fair assessment
I think you need to make the following additions.
    Tier 2:
    Giants
    Seahawks

    Tier 3:
    Redksins
    Bills
    Packers
    Eagles
    Saints

where do you put the cowboys then?

edit: nevermind, i see now you were adding to the list, not replacing teams.

I don't think the Browns are as good a team as everyone thinks.
Look for them to miss the playoffs again.

This conversation is more about the definition of elite and not which team is elite.

    Playoff wins i can understand.
Questioning the tackling of a top ten defense i can't. They allowed 230 yards in the loss to the Giants...
Also, a team has to be good for consecutive years to be elite? I disagree. Teams can get good quick. People would be calling the Packers elite if they still had Favre. The Panthers when the lost the Super Bowl also were an elite team.
Alright I'll play by your rules and say that it's not about several years but just the present, since no one has a crystal ball as to what will happen in 08 all I can do is look at the numbers from 07.

    Offense(rank) defense(rank) difference
    Pats

    589

    (1)

    274 (4)

    +315
    Colts

    450

    (3)

    262(1)

    +188
    Cowboys

    455

    (2)

    325 (13)

    +130
    Chargers

    412

    (5)

    284 (5)

    +128
    Rams

    263
    (28)

    438(31)

    -175
    Vikings

    365
    (15)

    311(12)

    +54

The colts and patriots have elite defense and elite offense, the cowboys have elite offense but only average offense(well very slightly better than average).
I just can't say the Cowboys are elite yet, maybe they will be after 08, but I doubt it.
Based on these findings I have to surmise that there is only 1 elite team, the patriots.

They are also the team that had the most luck regarding injuries, only 4 on IR all season long.
The REAL question is whether their luck on that front will hold up.
Give teams like the Colts and Chargers that kind of health and let's see who the better team is then.
    Looking at SOS:
    Steelers
    Colts
    Jaguars

    Vikings
    Ravens
    Titans
    Bengals
    Texans
    Browns
    Lions
    Bears
    Packers
    Redskins
    Cowboys
    Eagles
    Giants

    Rams
    49ers
    Seahawks
    Buccaneers
    Falcons
    Cardinals
    Dolphins
    Panthers
    Jets
    Chiefs
    Bills
    Saints
    Broncos
    Raiders
    Chargers
    Patriots

Teams in competitive divisions are high. Teams that ran away with their divisions are low. It has little to do with overall record.

NFC North was pretty competitive last year, as was NFC East, AFC North, AFC South, and NFC South. Those divisions account for 15 of our 2008 games. They account for 2 of the Patriots' games.

Patriots SOS for 2007 was 3rd highest. They went 16-0. I just don't think SOS holds much weight. Win in your division is all that matters.
