They are the best team of the NFC ( don't give me crap about the giants winning the SB ) plus they are mostly intact. Other than that you have the Pats, Colts and Chargers who are very constant playoff contenders.
They havn't gotten out of the first round of the playoffs. They have only had one good regular season. They have some very suspect players that could hinder there team(TO and Pacman), both have missed games for non football related reasons. Young QB has gunslinger mentality that when in the zone helps but makes it difficult for them to win consistantly(in the playoffs).

In my opinion there are only 2 teams in the NFL that should be considered elite, the colts and patriots. I'm sure other teams will have good years but those two teams it is hard to imagine losing more than 5 or 6 games all season. I could easily see the Cowboys falling apart and finishing with 8 or less wins.

Re: Titans an "elite team" ? + list of Elite teams

I would put the Chargers at elite after they beat the Colts in the RCA Dome last year in the playoffs...

Re the Cowboys, I mean, can anyone really claim that they are that much better than say, the Saints. I see similar teams: gunslinger QB, decent RB, and some other talent, but nothing that sticks out to me and shouts "RING!".

The playoffs are about having a defense that can shut drives down, and I just don't see any Texas team with that right now. The way it is, the Cowboys have a defense that bends and then breaks in December and January, and then they end up with Romo throwing a pick trying to engineer a late drive.

Re: Titans an "elite team" ? + list of Elite teams

There are two top teams: colts and patriots. that is it.
Then there is a second group of teams just below them: cowboys, chargers, and maybe the giants.
Then another tier under that with the teams that should be higher up, but they are just on the verge of breaking out: vikings, jags, browns (maybe).
After that there would be a mid tier with the rest of the teams that have a chance to win games, and probably will win games, but will find a way to wreck their season somehow: seahawks, titans, eagles, texans, steelers, ravens.
    We're bringing purple back.

Ok, so you think that San Diego beat the Colts in their own house, without Tomlinson, and they are not elite?
    : :

I agree re your other stuff, like the Vikes and Jags. I totally agree.

    Here is my breakdown:

    Elite:
    - Colts
    - Bolts
    - Pats

    Tier 2:
    - Giants
    - Cowboys
    - Vikings
    - Jags
    - Eagles
    - Packers (with Favre)
    - Seattle

What a weird comment ... and to auto pick them over the Vikes is odd as well.
Personally I think there are TWO elite teams in the NFL (that does not mean unbeatable): The Patriots and Colts.
Since 2001 these guys have been heavily in the mix for World Champ status and have won FOUR of seven Super Bowls while also playing in a handful of other Conference Championship games.
There are a lot of GOOD second tier teams: San Diego, Jacksonville, N.Y. Giants and Dallas in particular ... but as far as ELITE goes ... there are only two right now.

Guys, the Chargers went 14-2 two years ago and then beat the Colts in the RCA Dome with their best RB on the sideline last year. An how are they not "elite", again ?

The Bolts beat Indy twice last year !

    - Browns
    - Tennesse
    :

    Underrated:
    - Vikings

    - Eagles
    - Tampa Bay
    - Houston
    - Rams

Calling the Chargers more elite than the Colts is ridiculous because they beat them? So the Giants are more elite than the patriots right? Oh no they got lucky according to you.

No, SD is just about as elite as Indy, not more. Indy is absolutely an elite team, but so is SD.

Plus, as I mentioned, SD was 14-2 two years ago, and has been been on an upward trip for about 5 years now. With Tomlinson, Gates, and Rivers and that D, I can say, they are now elite. Yes.

I think you changed my mind, the chargers are also an elite team. 14-2 in 06 and 11-5 07, and they beat the patriots on the road to go to the afc championship game. Of course in 2003 they were 4-12 so from a historical point of view they are not as elite as the colts and patriots. Definetly not a team to be overlooked but I think their running game will suffer this year after losing lorenzo neal and Michael Turner.
