Titans an "elite team" ? + list of Elite teams
Last night on ESPN Radio, I heard the following two comments:
- "the VIP room/red velvet rope / top elite teams in the NFL in 2008 are: Colts, Chargers, Pats, Cowboys, and Titans".
- "running down the Titans schedule, they will get a Win vs. Minnesota".
I tend to disagree with both those assessments (I also think that Dallas doesn't belong in the elite list... (particularly given their lack of tackling in the secondary and their Choke Factor in recent playoffs).
My own list of Elite (VIP Room) Teams this year:
- Colts
- Pats
- Giants
- Chargers.
End.

Considering that Dallas upgraded their secondary, and they have one of the strongest offenses in the NFL, yeah, I would say that they should be on the list.
Titans however, I don't think so.Zeus wrote:
When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?

I hope the Titans don't win. I'd hate to be at that game and see a loss.

I would not call the Titans elite at all.

Yea, I’m traveling to that game form GA with my wife, its her first Vikings game.
It would suck if they lost.
Also Titans are not elite.
My elites are (in no particular order)
Colts
Pats
Chargers
Cowboys
Giants
Honorable Mention: Jags

I would agree with your list.
I don't think any team in the NFC is "elite", the Giants won the Superbowl but I'm convinced they won't do nearly as good this year.
The Cowboys need to win a playoff game sometime this decade to be considered.
I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

How are the Cowboys not Elite?
They are the best team of the NFC ( don't give me crap about the giants winning the SB ) plus they are mostly intact. Other than that you have the Pats, Colts and Chargers who are very constant playoff contenders.Rosie O'Donnell is a dude!

Re: Titans an "elite team" ? + list of Elite teams
The Giants got luckly.
I live in Dallas and I think I am in a position to assess the Cowboys. My take on their weaknesses are as follows:
a. QB who is "Favre-like" in his risk-taking (and I am not making a compliment here)
b. Shocking lack of tackling across the defensive unit ("Deon Sanders Syndrom")
c. Loss of one of their main running backs in the off-season
d. Lack of a WR to take the double-teams off T.O.
What they do have is a decent O-line and T.O. and Romo and Witten. I particularly like Witten. T.O. is a very good receiver for a guy who never leaves his feet, ever to make a catch.
Their tackling in the postseason was horrendous. Decision-making by Romo is hit or miss.
I have them at 10-6 this year and choking again in the off-season, preferrably to us.

1. Romo is going into only his third year as a starter, and has played great. Anyone not satisfied with his play is a hater.
2. Additions of Thomas and Pacman will make the defense even better.
3. Julius Jones considered a loss? Everyone in this city wanted him out of the door ASAP. Barber is ten times better, and they also added Felix Jones tto spell him.
4. They "lacked: another WR all year last year and still put up phenomenal passing numbers. Witten is the main reason for that.
Easily the best team in the NFC. Sure they're in a tough division, but they'll have a first round bye for sure.
I'm not sure how you define elite, but the Cowboys are definitely a top 5 team in the NFL."I hate when threads are destroyed by facts and logic."
