Tiki Barber Plans to Play in 2011

    Tiki Barber Plans to Unretire

Tiki Barber has alerted the NFL that he plans to come out of retirement and play in the 2011 season, sources close to the former New York Giants running back said Tuesday.

Barber, who sources said has already filed the appropriate paperwork to the league, will become a free agent. The 35-year-old back, who turns 36 in April, retired in 2007. He played 10 seasons, all for the Giants, finishing his career as the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

NBC fired him using morals clause in his contract

Also hope Zygi doesn't lean back on his old Giants fandumb and want to make a play for him....... Gus and Brett were enough of the old guys heading into retirement that came here. If he does i'm jumping onto Caine's Zygi meddling bandwagon

Absolutely ridiculous. I cannot imagine that many teams being interested in a 36-year-old running back that has been out of the league for four seasons.
He is getting everything he deserves ... which is pretty much nothing.

I don't doubt he can contribute to a team. A couple years out of the league should allow him to come back 100%.

His last season he had over 2100 rushing/recieving yards. I think for running backs it is not so much age as wear and tear on the body that limits there careers.

Obviously he will have to work out for teams and take a vet minimum contract. Will be interesting to see if the Giants release him or if they make him play/ try to trade him.

His twin brother is still playing so why can't he?

Because his twin brother plays corner, not running back.

The wear and tear argument is decent, but he has decent wear and tear AND is old as hell. He is in the top 30 in career rushing attempts and 12th in all purpose yards. He has his fair share of wear and tear.

And FOUR YEARS away from the game is quite a bit. I would be shocked if he is on a 53-man roster come opening day and even more shocked if he was on a 45-man active list on opening day.

4 years of being out of football shape could be tough on him (he does stay in shape but there is a difference), first thing though is the Giants still have his contract which I'm sure they would be happy to release him and then he could go to a team like the Redskins that have been known to over commit for players

This move is purely financially driven. I would bet his divorce and child support payments were as much of an inspiration as his brother 'reigniting' his desire to play.

We'll see. I am always amazed at what a player can do if fully motivated. I think Tiki has a ton of motivation and will give it 100%. With modern medicine age has become less of a factor. The wear and tear is still a factor, but Tiki got out before he hit the wall, so he may still have something left.
I never liked Tiki, but I am pulling for him as the underdog.
