This is the first time I'm actually happy I don't get NFLN.Joe Theismann Tapped for Thursday Night NFL Broadcasts
9/06/2010 4:29 PM ET By FanHouse Staff
Joe Theismann will be back in the broadcast booth as part of NFL Network's Thursday night telecasts, the league announced on Monday.
Theismann, who led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl victory in 1983, has worked sporadically since he was replaced as an analyst for "Monday Night Football" after the 2006 season. Theissman will call the games alongside Bob Papa and Matt Millen when the NFL Network begins its eight-game run at midseason.
"It's great to be back in the booth and joining Matt and Bob on NFL Network's primetime games," Theismann told USA Today. "We have a great schedule of games and I can't wait for them to begin."

I thought it was going to be the SNF crew? Both SNF and NFLN are airing it?

Amen, brother.NFL Network
WHAT'S NEW
The hiring of Theismann was as uninspiring as it was unoriginal. It's also a canard for anyone at the NFL Network to assert that Theismann bashing originates with critics. Viewers have consistently and clearly, through blogs, social media and other means, asserted that they do not enjoy listening to Theismann on game coverage. He dominates the airwaves, often to the point where his three-man booth becomes a one-man play. He is provocative, for sure, and more apt to say something memorable than Millen, which is why Theismann would be better in the studio. He's tight with broadcasting and NFL executives and that plays into decisions with talent (represented by high-powered agents) who have moved around the dial.
WHAT WE'D CHANGE
First, we'd scour the earth to put together the smartest minds to build a time machine. Then, we'd travel back two weeks ago and make a strong pitch to NFLN executives to not go down the Theismann path.

I don't care who is in the broadcast booth, but I certainly hope they have different people in the review booth.

NFLN plans to show repeated clips of Thiesman breaking his leg in an attempt to gain emotional balance from the viewing audience.
Seriously, why this guy? Was Gumbel unavailable?“What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. It’s the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

Re: Theismann Tapped for Thursday Night NFL Broadcasts
I never really had all that much trouble with Theismann as a broadcaster. Yeah, he does seem to love the sound of his own voice, but it's a lot less of an issue for me than for most, it seems.
He's a lot better as an analyst that as a live caller. He knows the game very well and has some good insights. I'd prefer to see him in studio to in the booth, but I'll live with it. t's only the NFLN Thursday games, after all.
