Terry Bradshaw admits to using steroids

wow - I hadn't seen this before today.

    http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/06/24/bradshaw-admits-to-steroid-use/
“We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing,” Bradshaw said on The Dan Patrick Show.
“My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and [I] thought nothing of it. . . .
It was to speed up the healing process, that was it.
It wasn’t to get bigger and stronger and faster.”

And before anybody gets excited about this, we need to remember that (to the best of my knowledge), steroid use was not banned at the time.

Some of the comments on PFT are getting stupid...

sorta surprising, but this could very well lead into a number of all time greats coming out and admitting to this

    Agreed.
I would be willing to bet that there were more players who used steroids than not in those days, especially as a way to heal.
That is a very common application of steroids, even today.
It wasn't really looked at as a muscle or growth enhancement in the 70's.
Obviously the culture is very different now.

Here is some pretty interesting info about Steroids:
    http://www.intheknowzone.com/steroids/history.htm

In 1964, the International Olympic Committee first published a list of banned drugs and practices for athletes, but the IOC did not ban steroids until 1975.

In the 1980's, steroid use continued in a sort of "gray market" area. Some elite-level athletes continued to use. Many non-competitive athletes and bodybuilders began to use steroids during this period, as well.

yah i certainly do believe what hes saying about roids helping guys recover..there used to be a guy on the score (canadian sports channel) from oklahoma who was a former big league baseball player, and he would talk very openly about his use, and about others in the league (without naming names)..i think his name is Jim Traber (i might be wrong), but he did often compare the steroid culture throughout the years..today and throughout the 90's the object was to bulk up and hit homeruns or physically dominate whatever sport you were playing..before then however guys used them more often to recover from injuries, or theyd take something called a "greenie" to get them up to play before games, sort of a shot of energy

If it was not against the rules then it should be a non-issue. Does not surprise me.

The stupid comments on PFT are a direct reflection of the mentality of its founder.
    :P

I haven't gone there yet, but I'm guessing that the Pats fan excuse-makers are out in full force on that one, using the same lame "everybody else was doing it" spiel.

true to an extent..certainly nothing to make a big deal over, or remove people from the hall of fame over, which would just be ridiculous, because, as you said, it wasnt against the rules..but i have a personal ill feeling towards guys who simply didnt do it clean whether it was legal or not..in the case of football players i dont really care so much, especially in that era, but in baseball, i have a problem..even in baseball i dont think anybody should be removed from the hall of fame, but they certainly do deserve that invisible asterisk that is in the fan's mind when seeing their name
