Re: Ten pressing issues for the 2007 season

Did anyone see that RG Keydrick Vincent get cut by the Ravens? Any idea if we are going after him? This guy is gigantic.

Some interesting points from Pat Kirwan, nfl.com on the current state of the nfl...

He's saying the 3-4 isn't the surprise it used to be, since we're all playing against it more often, same goes with the Tampa-2, he even talks about Dungy showing us it's weaknesses in the Superbowl...more and more teams are using a multi-look defense, just one more way to keep opponents guessing.

And, he quietly mentions at the end how recent rule changes have taken away the "Defense wins Championships" philosophy, and are giving offenses a better chance at dominating the field.

Ted Cotrell gave us a few glimpses back in the day.
He had an extra LB come in and rush from the edge...got us a couple of sacks as I recall.
Oh well, I am liking our new defense plenty!!
What better guy to pick apart the Tampa 2 than Dungy.

BTW, Teddy is in Sand Diego this year doing his thing.
We will have to watch and see how that turns out.
The Colts offense can pick apart almost any defense.

What did our right side of the O line look like last night?
I ddn't get to see the game.

This has been my main concern since day one......

And since we really had no off season changes there, I'm hoping the players themselves are starting to pick-up their game play and gel together..

To me, this is still our biggest weakness and question mark.....

Tampa 2 will always be effective with

    1) A good pass rush

    2) A disciplined secondary

    3) An above average to great middle linebacker.

    4) Solid tackling corners and athletic OLBs

And it never hurts to have the two best defensive tackles in the NFL.

    And guess what!

We have all of those things. Top 3 Defense in the NFL in 2007.
wow, your saying that if the linemen are good, the linebackers are good, the secondary is good then the defense will be good. Brilliant. ;D

Re: Ten pressing issues for the 2007 season

We don't play Tampa 2 exclusively, we show different looks too. Our defense will help our young offense by scoring themselves, getting turnovers, and giving us short field opportunities, and by keeping the score low, so we can pound the rock and dink and dunk, then take a shot downfield. If our scoring average goes up by 1 touchdown, we win 3-4 more games than last year.

Re: Ten pressing issues for the 2007 season

I see our defense being more opportunistic (creating turnovers / scoring points) than shutdown (3 and outs / low opponent offensive yardage).

If the defense can create those turnovers & points, and our offense can score a few more points than last year . . . we'll have close scoring games . . . but we should have more WINS than last year.

If any of those cogs fail . . . it'll be another frustrating season.
