Ten pressing issues for the 2007 season

Some interesting points from Pat Kirwan, nfl.com on the current state of the nfl...

He's saying the 3-4 isn't the surprise it used to be, since we're all playing against it more often, same goes with the Tampa-2, he even talks about Dungy showing us it's weaknesses in the Superbowl...more and more teams are using a multi-look defense, just one more way to keep opponents guessing.

And, he quietly mentions at the end how recent rule changes have taken away the "Defense wins Championships" philosophy, and are giving offenses a better chance at dominating the field.

Ted Cotrell gave us a few glimpses back in the day.
He had an extra LB come in and rush from the edge...got us a couple of sacks as I recall.
Oh well, I am liking our new defense plenty!!
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

What better guy to pick apart the Tampa 2 than Dungy.

BTW, Teddy is in Sand Diego this year doing his thing.
We will have to watch and see how that turns out.

Teddy was a terrible defensive cordinator for us and from the few games i saw this preaseson he isnt doing that good a job in SD so far.Granted that its pre-season and the charges have had a weak secondary for a while but they let up 31 points to the cards including and 80 yard td pass to anquan boldin and matt leinhart basically picked them apart without gettin sacked once. This from a defense that had 61 sacks last year.I think that total is going to go down this year to something around 40

Tampa 2 will always be effective with

    1) A good pass rush

    2) A disciplined secondary

    3) An above average to great middle linebacker.

    4) Solid tackling corners and athletic OLBs

And it never hurts to have the two best defensive tackles in the NFL.

    And guess what!

We have all of those things. Top 3 Defense in the NFL in 2007.

    Hell Yeah!!
    PRAISE DEFENSE!!
    I'm hoping top three too!!

While his defense was more confusing to its own players, I thought it was coming around in his second year...am I off in saying his two years here were the longest we've had a DCoord in the past 10 or 20 years?

And, IMHO, Ted was another victim of Old Dead Red...no assistants, no support staff, low FA help!!
(other than Winfield and Smoot, and the latter never lived up to his own hype)

the two games against the packers that we lost in 04 when it came down to that last drive i just knew deep down that we wont stop them.I still rooted for the d but they just marched down the field.but soon as chili took over with tomlin and now frazier u just get the feeling that our d could stop anyone. And they always keep us close in games (except against the patriots)

Teddy will get cut by the Chargers as a coach...just like they cut his little boy, TJ!
