Taylor calls treatment from Vikes "Shameful"

Vikings miss Chester Taylor, who calls former team's treatment of him 'shameful'

"Chester was very underused last year," Favre said. "It was my first year here, but I thought his ability to play a wideout position, run screens from the halfback position, just his overall feel for the game, blocking responsibilities and things like that, were as good as any of the guys I've ever played with at that position. I just thought we could have had more packages and used him in so many different ways. So no doubt, if we didn't know already, we've realized how much of an impact he did have for us."

Re: Taylor calls treatment from Vikes "Shameful"

I shared this opinion before the season started in disgust that we let go an important part of our offense, after the first few weeks of the season when we had trouble scoring a TD and I share it now: I wrote "The vikes will miss him" and they do miss Chester Taylor. We could have easily kept him with all of our cap space. Childress and co basically took some of the pieces that made the vikes a superbowl contender and shook it up a bit like he was play Boggle, hoping to be able to spell a word. He was our poorman's Brian Westbrook.

I know whenever I posted my disgust for not keeping him and that we will miss him, I was met with some sarcasm but as it stands, I stand by my opinion. Because why fix something that isn't broke and why break-up parts of a superbowl caliber team when it was so close.

I agree that we miss him ... but we simply could not come close to matching that money.

The Bears WAY overpaid for him ... as they did for Peppers and they are looking at cap issues in the next couple of years while trying to desperately get an OL (which is expensive) to protect Cutler.

He got $7 million guaranteed ... that simply is too much for Chester Taylor ... which is why NO OTHER team offered it.

The cap is not going to matter next year.

What midge says.. Too much money. Then the guy went and bailed for the freakin' Bearce. Nope, I don't feel sorry for the guy whatsoever. Thought he was the 'consummate professional'? Guess not. Funny how awesome he's doing in Chi-town, no?

    I think so.

Wow, those are some sour grapes there.

Chester was a great player for us, and I do mean great. His loss really did hurt us.

But the fact does remain that we could not possibly match that offer, especially for a backup. We might have made a lower counter-offer to keep him, but I doubt very much he would have accepted it with that much on the table.

Such is life, and it goes on.

He said he wanted to go somewhere to "win" and he clearly just went where there was the most money. Seems like he is talking out of his ass there.

I like Chester, but the Bears simply WAY overpaid for him ... that is why he signed there and why nobody else got in the market for him.

Chester was a big loss for us and i don't think the powers that be realised just how important he was in our offense.

I can understand the decision to not make the kind of offer the Bears did from a purely business point of view as figures like that for essentially a back-up just isn't viable, but from a footballing point of view it was a bad move letting him go.

    REALLY?!

    Bears 8 games
    173 yards rushing, 3.2 ypc
    92 yards receiving, 8.4 ypc
    No fumbles
    1 TDs

    Vikings last year
    338 yards rushing, 3.6 ypc
    389 yards receiving, 8.8 ypc
    2 fumbles
    2 TDs

That is not even factoring in the abilty to block which Taylor is excellent at.

The Vikes paid Taylor 3 mil last year for his production and the Bears are paying him close to 7-8 mil (2 mil signing bonus, 1 mil salary and 4 mil roster bonus with another possible 1 mil workout bonus LINK) for this years production, he left for the payday and a shot at being a starter, Vikings weren't offering either of these.

Now I do agree the Vikings miss him but there does come a point when a team needs to reload with some youth and guys like Birk, Sharper and Taylor move on, but if they start to complain about shameful treatment after they leave and roll around in their new big pile of money I tend to lose some respect for them.
