Thread: Steelers are accepting offers for Roethlisberger

Aparantly the Steelers are less than thrilled, and are open to offers for Roethlisberger. Word is, they want either a QB, or a pick that would put them in position to draft a top QB.

I would think the Vikings have to atleast consider the possibility. Not too often a fully proven, young QB, with a history of winning superbowls, becomes available.

The Steelers might end up having more pressure than they think to get rid of Ben. A couple of late firsts might get him. A bargain for a player of his caliber.

I don't think the Rams will want to trade the number 1 pick, thought they were looking at McNabb so maybe there would be interest.

Rams weren't willing to part with their #1 for McNabb though.

I seriously doubt we make a run at Roethlisberger. He really is not a fit for our offense, add in the off field issues, and we don't have a pick that would be enticing for them, I doubt there are even talks.

From how it soudns, they want either a QB, or a high draft pick to draft a top QB, neither of which we have. If they don't get that, he'll probably stay a Steelers. I doubt they're willing to negotiate on that.

I'd take Bollinger back before Roethlisberger.

What I find kindof interesting in all of this is the shift teams seem to be willing to accept as they toe the line with respect to the "New" environment that the commish is enforcing under the Owners mandate.

Think about how hard it is to find a QB who can lead a team, and yet, the Steelers are willing to get rid of the one they have because of personnel conduct.

For those of us who have been following the game for along time, we can probably think of a few characters that are now HOF'rs who wouldn't even be allowed to play in the league right now because of issues like this.

On a side note, wasn't it Mike and MIke who said that the Rams were offering up the first for him? Probably the only scenario, other than the Bills at 9, that would make sense, at least to me as that would allow the Steelers to land Bradford or possibly Clausen.

Even if you're right and teams used to keep players like this... maybe this is signaling that the league actually has compassion.

I didn't condone what he did or say other players did something like that. I said I can think of a few players who wouldn't be allowed to play in this league.

By the way, I am one of a select few on here who like what the owners and the commish are doing to clean up/push out the riff raff like Big Ben.

It depends on if they are really okay with keeping him. I have a feeling there are some in the organization that think he no longer deserves to be the face of the franchise.

Just saying they are shopping him could set off a chain reaction where him playing for the Steelers is no longer an option and they have to take what they can get. Sorta like Jay Cutler and Broncos last year. Time will tell.
