St. Louis on notice to upgrade or build a new stadium

New venues put city on notice for keeping Rams

    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

    05/30/2008

If St. Louis intends to meet its lease agreement by providing the Rams with a venue that ranks in the top 25 percent of the NFL by 2015, the city — and the taxpayers — must commit to building a state-of-the-art stadium. One in which the cost could hit 10 figures....

It isn't obsolete - it just isn't in the top 1/4 of NFL stadium venues anymore.
And that is because of the way it was designed and because of the asinine lease St Louis entered into.
In 1995 football pundits already had an idea of what the NFL was moving towards in stadiums, and despite the article's claim, it was hardly "the cutting edge" of technology.
Putting the "top 1/4 of stadiums" clause in the lease was a nice way to attract the team, but was a stupid decision on the part of the city.

This isn't something we need to look forward to - because Minnesota has a history of screwing the team, not the city, in its leases.

Looking at the figures I was surprised how much money for Dallas was from private funds compared to public funds. If there was one team that I thought would make a large push for public funding then Dallas was it. Also surprising that the NY stadium has $0 from public funds .. is there some form of tax breaks/incentives given to the Giants & Jets have been given as the $1.3 billion price tag is huge.
