Singletary benches O'Sullivan, banishes Davis to locker room in Niners coaching
Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO - Mike Singletary put his stamp on his coaching debut for the San Francisco 49ers, benching turnover-prone quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan in the second quarter and then sending volatile tight end Vernon Davis to the locker room with more than 10 minutes remaining Sunday.

Go big Mike.

Singletary will bring accountability to those 40whiners.

Too bad all his players are still terrible.

NFL.com has a good article on this and Iron Mike's actions during the game.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...s&confirm=true
The most appropriate quote is:
Quote:
O'Sullivan said he was surprised after he was benched: "It is the last thing you are thinking about." But he was pulled after throwing a pick that was returned 75 yards for a touchdown. He was pulled after the San Francisco offense continued its trend of sloppy play. Was he kidding when he said he never thought he would be pulled?
If not, then, goodness, little wonder Singletary exploded about his team's mindset as much as its shoddy performance.
Singletary wants his players to learn accountability.
MS wants his players to "man up", no when they make a mistake (or are about to make one) and correct it.
Much the same way we are expected to make corrections in our day to day jobs.
Sometimes when people act like children in order to get the desired results out of them you have to treat them as children.
Unfortunately, too many people think that these elite athletes need to be babied so they don't depart in free agency.
Because of coddeling you get players like TO, Plaxico, Keyshawn, etc..
Maybe Iron Mike is right and it's time to go old school on these guys.
Sure you may lose some "super stars", but maybe the "lackluster talent" you are left with will play with a real passion for the game, a real sense of team work and belonging.
Maybe we might get a few new "dynasties" put together with love of the game instead of the pocketbook.
Rant off.

The article does not explain much. What did he do to be sent off?

He caught a pass in front of Seahawks safety Brian Robinson, then as he walked past him he reached up and tapped his facemask.
The refs called a 15 yard unsportsman like conduct, Iron Mike pulled him out and made him sit on the bench.
Evidently he didn't like that and his "body language" and attitude caused MS to send him to the showers.
Re: Singletary benches O'Sullivan, banishes Davis to locker room in Niners coaching
From what I read, Davis didn't take Singletary seriously when he benched him.

Until the current "new school" in the future becomes "old school" and then everybody will rave about how old school new school was the good ole days.
