Buccaneers | Simms turned down $10 million guaranteed
Thu, 12 Oct 2006 10:22:33 -0700
Stephen F. Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms (spleen) turned down an offseason contract from the club believed to be a five-year deal that would have included $10 million in guaranteed money. "It was good money, definitely. But I was rolling the dice,' said Simms, who has since had a splenectomy and is sidelined for the foreseeable future. "I have no regrets. I totally believed in what I was doing. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably do the same thing. Hindsight is always 20/20, but as long as I stay healthy, I'll get mine down the line."

Re: Simms turned down $10 million guaranteed
In a game of few guarantees, this was just STUPID of Simms.
This sounds like a case of "his people" convincing him that he is better than....well....ahhh.... Chris Simms!
Simms is an "Okay" QB...that should have taken that 10mil and ran all the way to the bank with it!

I know what MY answer will be if my employer wants to "lock me up" for 5 years at 10Mil!
;DI'd much rather see the Packers miss the playoffs because of their talent then because of their injuries.

Re: Simms turned down $10 million guaranteed
Simms was not even worth that much money from his performance last year, forget the fact that he'll be lucky to be brought back next year

I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

Bruce Gradkowski reportedly (haven't seen him yet) has looked really good and that the fans are in love with the guy, maybe Simms doesn't have a team to come back to when he is healed.
But you do have to admit the guy is one tough SOB for staying in a game when you ruptured your spleen in the 1st half and have internal bleeding. What we've got here is failure to communicate.

I hope he does come back and does well though.

Gradkowski has looked good...in one game.I hate being around Bucs fans here in Florida.Their quick to be madly in love with a player, and quick to kick em to the curb.Chris Simms is the best example.Simms came in last year and had nothing but an average year at best.He then went (not took)with the Bucs to the playoffs, where he caved. His 3 step drop is terrible, its the reason behind all the batted balls.Gradkowski has played one NFL game, and I'm already hearin crap down here about him being "the future".Pleaaaaaaaase.

Re: Simms turned down $10 million guaranteed
In 5 years everyone will forget about Chris Simms, and be all over his brother Matt.
He goes to a private school in NJ, pretty close to me, they've been one of the top teams in the nation the past.... forever, it's called Don Bosco Prep, they're nasty, and Matt Simms is DAMN GOOD. He's comitted to Louisville. He's I think a top 50 prospect.
I just figured I'd let you all in on some of my incomprehensible amount of knowledge.
