OK. A little off topic, but I always had a fear that the Bears were going to get him in the off season last year.
I never felt he was great. But the Bears didn't appear to need much at that point in time.
Rex, who they like right now, lost the superbowl for them.
This is a very good point.. with Rex we know that the bears are set to fight against themselves.

if they got simms, that might change.. he won't lead them in amazing play.. or even bring them to the promise land.. but. he will control the ball/game better then Rex.. and might teach orton?? how to do things better.

The Baltimore Ravens are among the three finalists to sign veteran free agent offensive tackle Barry Sims, but appear to be trailing behind the St. Louis Rams and the San Francisco 49ers....

    Not anymore.
Should the Vikings take a look at picking up a younger vet in Simms?
I for one do not like JDB and Simms has proven he can win in the NFL, so I'd be happy replacing "Baby Hands" Booty with Phil's son.
Simms has experience in the WCO and a high football IQ.
If he is healthy enough to play, I would feel much better having him on our roster.

I would only bring him in in an emergency. If he is not good enough to start for the Bucs and if he is not separationg himself from a group that includes brian Griese, Luke McCown and a rookie, what chance does he have to come here and amount to any more than a blonder Bollinger?

I think it had more to do with his salary than not separating himself from the others.
He also has a much better arm and better pocket presence than Bollinger.
At the very least he could make a good veteran backup when Gussy retires in a year or two...unless we're planning on using Gus up until he is useless like we did with Brad.

Wjat has Simms done in his NFL to demonstrate that he is a better QB than Bollinger? Hell, Holcolm has better career stats that Simms and look how he turned out.

    Simms:

YEAR TEAM G CMP ATT PCT YDS AVG TD LNG INT RAT
    2004 TAM

    5 42 73 57.5 467 6.4 1

    75 3

    64.1
    2005 TAM

    11 191 313 61.0 2035 6.5 10 78 7 81.4
    2006 TAM

    3 58 106 54.7 585 5.5 1 55 7 46.3
    Career

    19 291 492 59.1 3087 6.3 12 78 17 71.

    Bollinger:

YEAR TEAM G CMP ATT PCT YDS AVG TD LNG INT RAT
    2004 NYJ

    1 5 9 55.6 60 6.7 0 26 0 76.2
    2005 NYJ

    11 150 266 56.4 1558 5.9 7 60 6 72.9
    2006 MIN

    2 13 18 72.2 146 8.1 0 50 1 72.9
    2007 MIN

    5 33 50 66.0 391 7.8 1 50 1 88.0
    Career

    19 201 343 58.6 2155 6.3 8 60 8 75.2

    Holcolm:

    G
    Comp
    Att
    PCT

    YD
    AVE
    TD

    LNG
    INT

    RTE
    1997 IND 5 45 73 61.6 454 6.2 1 41 8 44.3
    2001 CLE 1 7 12 58.3 114 9.5 1 25 0 118.1
    2002 CLE 4 64 106 60.4 790 7.5 8 44 4 92.9
    2003 CLE 10 193 302 63.9 1797 6.0 10 68 12 74.6
    2004 CLE 4 59 87 67.8 737 8.5 7 55 5 96.8
    2005 BUF 10 155 230 67.4 1509 6.6 10 65 8 85.6
    2007 MIN 3 42 83 50.6 515 6.2 2 40 1 73.1
    Career 37 565 893 63.3 5916 6.6 39 68 38 79.2

So you can see by the career stats that both Bollinger and Holcolm have equal or better career stats in the following categories:

    Comp %
    TD/INT
    QB Rat
    Ave YPC

I am not sure how to take those stats and make a compelling case for why he would be a better QB except that he is probably much more photogenic holding a clipboard.
