Nice post. Still think he should be wearing the purple. He made many more tackles in 08 than Tyrell did in 09.
We gave up just as many big plays without him as we did with him.
635 tackles in the last 9 years, he can't be that bad at it.
To put that in perspective Ed Reed had 458 in the last 8.

No safety has worked out in our scheme. Sharper has been a stud on every team, even the Vikes, before we implemented our "scheme".Please, no. He doesn't fit the scheme we run. Now, I liked him and all.. but after seeing how he played his last year here in Minny, I realized that he misses too many tackles, and run piss poor angles (I think Zeus tried to get me to see this 2 years ago). Hell, there were more than a few times during the SB when I saw him take horrible angles and miss tackles.
Nope, he'd just delay the play of a young player. If we need to, draft a young DB.
Our secondary has ranked in the bottom half of the league for the past 4 years. We peaked at 18th (2008) and hit the bottom at 32nd (2007) and 31st (2006).
Makes you think, maybe it's the scheme?
As for the missed tackle arguments we're hearing so often. I don't think people argue the fact he misses tackles. We know that. Its that our guys miss more. Packers and Steelers game easily come to mind where both MW and TJ had major fuckups that could have and did cost us a game.
M-will MT 11/Tackles 56
Sharp MT 10-Tackles 50

Lets look at Sharpers last season here compared to this season with who we have.
M-will MT 11/Tackles 56
Sharp MT 5-Tackles 60
STJ MT 6/Tackles 46
Hmm... And some say there was no decline in play

How many plays did he make when he was a Viking? Sure the heck wasn't as many as he made as a Saint. Wonder why that is?Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Ahh yes but you failed to compare it to the last year he played as a Viking. Same system, better numbers. Sharper should still be here. I am just hoping TJ improves. It is not like he is that far from Sharper but Sharper has the leadership advantage which I always like.marstc09 wrote:

Saints: MT 10, Tackles 50, 9 INT, 13 stops
Vikings: MT 5, Tackles 60, 1 INT, 17 stops
So more missed tackles and less tackles with the Saints. Then you have the 8 more INTs with the Saints. We all pretty much agree that our system does not really give the Safeties many chances at INTs. This year we were 26th in the league in INTs with 11. Not very good. So what are you trying to tell me?

Also very reliable, only missed 2 games in 4 years, both in 05.
I think it will be very hard to find another player that can put up those numbers in this system.

That makes 4.5 interceptions per year, 3 of those 4 years he was in the Cover 2.
Lets once again just focus on seasons where Sharper played safety in the Cover 2
Interceptions: Madieu averages 1 a season, TJ averages 1.(came htis year) Sharper, he had 3 a season
Fumbles Forced: Madieu: 0 TJ: 0, Sharper: .667
Deflections: Madieu: 3.5 TJ: 4.5, Sharper: 6 (he had 15 this season... funny, I could have sworn Zeus told me he doesn't deflect many passes, he's just lucky)
Touchdowns: Madieu: 0 TJ: 0 Shaprer: 0.33
lets even do tackles:
Madieu: 49.5 (not bad) TJ: 36 (take into account he wasn't a starter last year) Sharper: 66.3.... hmmmmm
But your right, we clearly are better without him.

Re:Sharper to test free agency...
A question I still have which hasn't been answered:
We say Sharper isn't built for this system. Fair enough.
He's said, this system limits him and his produciton. I can agree with that.
We won't take into account, that despite not being good for this system, he's the best safety we've had in a long time.
My question is. Who is built for our system? Who would be the ideal fit?
Some notable safeties that played in the Tampa-2.
John Lynch - He played around in the box alot, making hits
Bob Sanders - See John Lynch.
seems the successful 'Tampa 2' safeties, really don't play alot of Tampa 2, the coaches adjust to fit their strengths, otherwise they'd be burnt constantly by having a guy always looking for the big hit.
