Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
This is a little old, but either I missed the discussion or it is nonexistent on pp.o.
The salary cap is one of the things that makes the NFL so great.
Interesting read, even if does originate from a challenged Packer-type.

Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
that would suck so bad for us
we dont need the nfl to turn into the mlb, and have people gettin arod contracts
Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
The NFLPA really needs to get someone to run their show that knows what the hell he`s doing. Upshaw does nothing for me.
If they get rid of the cap, the NFL`s poopularity would drop like a rock. Not to mention there would be a strike beforehand.
Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
If they eliminate the salary cap, big market teams will be buying Super Bowls & the chances of the Vikings ever winning one will be slimmer than it is now.
Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
The charm of the NFL is that anyone can beat anyone on Any Given Sunday ;).. i can see why the players want it so they can get payed in insane amounts like A-Rod, Santana and all the superstars like that in Baseball..
Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
If the salary cap goes it would really suck. That is actually one of the best things of the NFL

While Upshaw is a complete tool, he's only saying what he needs to say in this case.
Everyone needs to remember that the first step in this battle was taken by the owners, when they talked about terminating the current CBA after the later this year (2008).

Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
Personally I don't think the owners overall will back out of the deal, but greed is a funny thing. Instead of opting out of the deal, just hold the signing to the minimum limit instead for your bottom line. Just because there is a cap, you don't have to spend to it... note the 07 Packers as one of many teams that didn't spend to the limit.
In record profits.. it would be silly to disrupt the positive vibes of the game.. but the greedy bastages like Jerry Jones surely might swing the tide.
Re: Salary Cap, a thing of the past?
Could you buy a team in the NFL? It would be funny to watch the redskins buy LT, Randy and Brady and still go 9-7..
