Re: Salary cap #s (25 Aug. 2008)
$5.0 is a good number imho, it shows that the team is willing to go out and pay to get (or keep) the guys they think will make a difference, but it also allows room to finangle around any injury or off-field issues that may occur

VikesFan787, Thanks for the awesome sig!

It'll be $5.0 until later this season when RobB's 2008 magic kicks in and some "not likely to be earned" incentive money is returned to the cap.$5.0 is a good number imho, it shows that the team is willing to go out and pay to get (or keep) the guys they think will make a difference, but it also allows room to finangle around any injury or off-field issues that may occur

I thought that got added at the beginning of the new league year/free-agency.
I've been trying to figure out how we got down to $5.0 million, and that certainly would explain it.

I wonder how KC manages to be 31mil under the cap after paying 15 rookie contracts, and top 5 picks 2 years in a row prior to that.

Free agents are expensive.
Yeah, you're going to take a $5 million/year hit for a top 10 guy.
But later round 1 guys are usually less than about $2 million/year, round 2 guys are about $1 million/year, and after that the contracts are small enough that they may not even count against your cap until the last round of roster cuts.

I thought the redskins were over the cap? I guess they fixed it, according to this list.
Also, what is the basement number that teams have to be at ($32million under is basement?)? and what date do they have to be at that number, or under the cap if they are over? We're bringing purple back.
