Sack specialist Wake headed to Dolphins

B.C. sack specialist Wake headed to Dolphins.

    CBS Sports, Jan 19, 2009

Cameron Wake will leave the B.C. Lions after agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins.

The NFL club confirmed the signing on their website Monday, and the Lions released a statement on what was inevitable following Wake's two stellar CFL seasons at defensive end.

"It happened really fast," Wake, who is expected to play linebacker with the Dolphins, said on a conference call.

After the season, he went to Montreal during Grey Cup week to collect his second straight award as the CFL's outstanding defensive player, then went to Hawaii on a short vacation.

"As soon as I stepped back in Vancouver, it all started," he said.

Wake made visits to nine or 10 teams over the past month, finally narrowing his list to the "really serious" teams: Miami, Denver, Indianapolis, Buffalo and Minnesota.

I wonder what the Vikings offered Wake to sign.
I personally called and emailed the Vikings management to push for Wake.
He has been an absolute terror in the CFL, and his athletic skills are phenomenal.
I think he is a KGB or Suggs type player that can do well in both a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme.

I'm not sure how he will do as
a linebacker for the Dolphins, as I don't know his coverage skills, but it would have been nice to see him as a defensive end for the Vikings.

Wake was a beast all year up here in the CFL. He does not have the size for a 4-3 end, but for sure could play the d-ware style of linebacker in the 3-4

Maybe they were discouraged when Jamel Richardson turned down their contract offer to stay with the Alouettes...

Here is a youtube feature on Wake.

The Vikings may rue the day they didn't go after him with a good contract early.

If Parcells wanted him, you know he's a pretty good player.

    CFL 2007 Outstanding Rookie.
CFL 2007 Defensive Player of the Year.
CFL 2008 Defensive Player of the Year.

The Dolphins want to move him to linebacker in the 3-4.

Cameron Wake: Canadian Import Eager To Prove He Belongs

    April 6, 2009

    By Andy Kent
    MiamiDolphins.com

It is too early to tell whether or not Cameron Wake will be remembered for blazing a trail from north of the border to the National Football League, but the former Penn State linebacker certainly drew a lot of attention when he signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 19.

The 25-year-old Wake won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards in the Canadian Football League for the British Columbia Lions after racking up 39 sacks the last two seasons (16 in 2007 and 23 in 2008). At 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, he fits the mold of a pass-rushing outside linebacker in Miami's 3-4 defensive alignment and is eager to prove that his skills can yield similar success in the NFL.

"I like to think I'm a hard-working guy coming from Penn State. They not only breathe hard work but they're basically blue-collar guys who do what needs to be done," said Wake, who was signed on the same day as his former Penn State teammate, safety Ethan Kilmer. "On the field I'm non-stop, relentless and try to get to the ball at all costs. In Canada we'd say, 'Don't stop until you get there' and that's how I like to look at myself."

I read a Tuna quote someplace, shortly after we signed Onatolu were, he said that LB'rs from the CFL tend to be better in coverage and special teams because of the size of the field.
Said he likes to get at least one or two on his team. (or something along those lines).
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg
