Chrissy Mauck, of SF49ers.com, reports WR Jerry Rice signed a ceremonial contract with the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Aug. 24. The dollar figure on the contract was $1,985,806.49, an amount that honors his history with the organization. He will retire with the team that drafted him in 1985 as a No. 1 draft pick.

Don't get me wrong, Rice is the greatest WR ever, but he should have retired about 5 years ago...

I agree, he extended his career out a little bit too much.

But Jerry Rice is the man, not only the best WR of all time, but one of the best football players ever.

I am happy for Rice. I could not think of him as a Raider, Seahawk, or a Bronco; always as a 49er. Congrats, Jerry Rice.

Fair play to him, and while I have to agree with those who say he should have retired 5 years ago, the guy wanted to continue playing so who are we to deny him those last few years?

That being said, I forgot he was a Seahawk for a while! Oh well.. :P

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er

Jerry Rice just wanted to pad his records to ensure NOBODY would be touching them for some years to come.
    He's a fierce competitor . . . and those types don't go quitely.

Years from now, nobody will remember these other teams.
