49ers | Rice trying to retire with the team
Mon, 17 Jul 2006 06:04:14 -0700
Dennis Georgatos, of the Mercury News, reports WR Jerry Rice wants to return to the San Francisco 49ers for a retirement ceremony, but details of the tribute are still being worked out with 49ers owner John York. If Rice signs a ceremonial one-day contract this year, it will have to be soon. Teams can afford a ceremonial spot on the bigger training-camp rosters, but not on the 53-man squad of the regular season. The 49ers are working on a fitting tribute, team spokesman Aaron Salkin said. "No details have been finalized, but there's no doubt the team wants him to retire as a 49er," Salkin said. "Not only the team but the fans."

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er
I don't blame him. He set his records with them, and played most of his career with them. We would want that for someone who played like that for the Vikes. I say go for it!

I will always think of him as a 49er.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er
I will always remember Rice as a 49er.. He had his best playing years on that team.. I really think he should have retired when he left the 9ers.. If you look at it, he hasn't done much since he left that team, and he could have retired as the greatest WR to ever play the game, having played for just 1 team.. He tarnished that legacy just a smidge, but when we are talking about Jerry Rice, it would take much more then that to ruin that guys legacy..

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er
i hope he does, that would show a lot of class from the 49ers to allow him to do so.

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er
I hope he gets it. A guy with that much class and that many accomplishments deserves a nice ceremony with his original team!

Re: Rice trying to retire as a 9er
In my opinion he should have already retired as a 49er.
