Re: Report: Bears to release Chester Taylor

I'd rather see more of Booker tbh over Toby. Booker is more of the quick, scat-back type that makes a good 3rd down back. Toby is a more power, uphill runner. And a marginal one at that.

You have got to be kidding right?

Bring back a 32-year-old running back who totaled 406 yards on 132 touches last season and cut a 24-year-old who totaled 489 yards on only 101 touches?

Yeah ... that makes a lot of sense.
Wow, apparently I can't have my opinion. Well let me start by saying Chester was never a bullet and never will be. Toby same. How many plays/receptions did Chester make on third and short? Answer :a lot. Toby got pushed back or tackled for a loss how many times? He's a short yardage back and he's not very good thus far at it. Oline is partially to blame but so is his running style, upright when he hits the hole. Watch the tape. Also your 489 yards is a lousy number because a lot of those yards were in nothing games at the end of year. Bears, Eagles. The bears pulled there starters at the end. Chester is 32? So what? Like he's taken a beating over the years, I think not. Hes sat most of his career as a backup. Has he lost a step or two, probably but does his role make it that big of a deal? No. Toby ain't going anywhere in this league i fear but I hope I am wrong.
I bet you could use a cool one huh Clark...Now you're talkin Eddie...

Gerhart is a better runner right now. Taylor was a solid overall back, but has decline with age. I think he'd still be a good 3rd down back, not for tough yardage, but to catch passes out of the backfield.

The only issues are: 1) it would bring back the same patterns that held us down under Childress, we need to have Peterson on the field on more third downs... not all, but at least 50% to keep defenses honest.

    2) $

Really? Chester made a bunch of plays this season? That is simply inaccurate, not an opinion. He was awful this season. You can try to spin all you want, but he played with a team that had twice the line as the Vikings and half the first-string RB and he still put up less yards rushing AND receiving than our rook.

The blind love for Chester has always been acceptable around he because he was a team player and a good Viking, what I don't get at all is the hate for Toby after what could only be construed as a fairly solid rookie season in the role he was supposed to be in.

Toby filled in more than capably when AD was hurt, he came back from and injury himself and his numbers completely dwarf CTay's despite being in the EXACT same position on the depth chart and serving as the exact same thing - a third-down back.

Chester's days are CLEARLY behind him which is why a team that invested $7 million into him is already willing to part ways with him.

Now you want to argue whether we need someone other than Toby (I like Booker a lot too) then that is a different argument ... But arguing a 32-year-old CTay would be better than Gerhart is an opinion, and you are entitled, but it is ridiculous none-the-less.

We moved on from Chester, we have Toby now, along with Lorenzo Booker who can contribute.. If we want to improve the running game, i think getting a quality fullback in here is the way to go..

Don't get me wrong, i love Chester and the things that he did for us for off the charts, he didn't get to much credit and was in the shadow of AD for a few years, but as a third down back.. He is as good as they get.

orrr... pre-concussed Westbrook or LT any time. Both better than Chester Taylor.

I'll give you Pepp but CT and Tice? Comeon my friend.

I'd say that Martz willingness to get TE's involved helped the OL more than Tice's coaching.

CT only had 267 yards rushing this year. When you look at someone like Sprooles, who had a off year with the same amount and half the carries, he really didn't do anything.

Heck, even Toby, who missed a few games, had more than he did.

The Packers will probably pick him up. They are damn dangerous right now but adding a guy like him who can block, catch screens and provide a veteran presence in a young group like their RB's would be bad news for the NFC Norris division.

But IMHO he would be a perfect fit up there and would have the added benefit of sticking it to his previous 2 clubs 4x a year.

Truth is, the Bears paid WAY too much for CT... The Vikes were smart not to pay him that much, or, anything near. RE: Bears releasing him, to me, it's quite simple...they paid him too much, and, Forte is simply a much better option. RE: bringing him back, I would start with a vet minimum offer and see if he can beat out Booker...no guarantees.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

LMAO!! The HC on record, and the players have all said that Tice was a great addition and a key part to turning that team around. But of course that doesn't matter to do, because it's all probably some PR bullshit right?

You are right in that CT did next to nothing for them. Anything he can do, Forte can do better. Forte is a good back, and underrated iMO. CT is an alright backup, but not worth the money they are paying him. If he came back here ahead of Toby, I'd be happy with that. If he didn't not a problem, we have Booker who I'd like to see more of anyway.
