Rams release Orlando Pace

Rams Release Pace

After 12 seasons as one of the foundations of the Rams, left tackle Orlando Pace and the team parted ways on Tuesday afternoon as Pace was released.

And he's been injured often the past few seasons.

They should bring him in for a look...find out if he can/would play RT for a decent price.

I'd like to see us do something to address this position before the draft, because I really want to see us take a WR in the first round for once.

"The Vikings might be interested in Pace as an option on the right side, given that they were believed in some circles to be interested in making a run at Carolina’s Jordan Gross."

Re: Rams release Orlando Pace

I wasn't surprised by this move at first, but apparently Pace actually started 14 games last year and played fairly well.
The Washington Post credits him with just 2 sacks allowed and 1 holding penalty last year (link).
That's pretty good considering the team gave up 45 sacks as a whole (link).
Even so, he is getting older (33) and has a bad injury history over the past 4 years.
Any team that signed him would be taking on a risk.

As for the kind of salary he'll demand, he was scheduled to make about $6 million this year in St. Louis.
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the Rams were trying hard to trade the guy (link), which suggests that nobody was willing to part with even a low draft pick if they had to eat that salary (and there would have been $0 in guarantees).
So maybe a realistic market price for Pace is around $4-5 million/year?

All things considered, I would like to see the Vikings bring him in.
It wouldn't be the biggest move of all time, but could potentially upgrade our line.
I would see him moving to the right side, which would be a change but is usually considered easier to play than the left side.
Even if he's slowed down, he could use more of his 6'7" frame and 325 pounds and less of his finesse over there.
Also, I don't think other people are worried about this, but I still contend that there is a real chance when we wake up in a week the Vikings will be down one starting left tackle (link).
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

I think i'd rather have Tauscher than Pace at this point.

Not huge on the idea of old guys, I'd still like Tauscher, but something needs to be done at RT...
