    raiders a sleeper

any one else think the raiders might be this year's sleeper team. just think about it, they went out and got some very good players( hall, mcfadden, walker). with those players then you add russell and fargas. they have the stepping stones to be a young upcoming team.

No the Raiders are not a sleeper team. However they are going to be a sleep for most of the season.

If you want a sleeper try the "Houston Texans"

    Re: raiders a sleeper

We see a million of these threads all the time about which team is this years sleeper team ... and the truth is ... there is going to be one that comes from somewhere, there always is.
I feel like and idiot, because it does not make any sense, but I think the Raiders actually could be it. My main reasoning is that I like Lane Kiffin, think he has the backs to be successful with his running attack and think Jemarcus Russell will take a big step forward.
Now, the fact that they get the Broncos and Chiefs twice could be good (of course Oak. could lose all four of those games too).
But I am not sleeping on the Raiders. I could see them being a surprise team and making a run at 9-7 and if the Chargers slip, 9-7 could be in the race for the division crown.
I am not gonna actually pick this of course. I will end up picking the Raiders to go 6-10, lol.

The Raiders will be better than last year (6-7 wins, maybe even 8 wins).
There's no way htey're making the playoffs though, they are too bad on the offensive and defensive line.

    Re: raiders a sleeper

I don't think so for one main reason.
I don't think thier QB is ready to take them to the next level.

The team I am most interested in is the Texans.
I know, tough division, but they have put together a very nice looking Defense that can push those teams a bit and thier passing game showed some life last year.

Get the running game going and they might have something this year.

They are a year away, at least, from being a decent team.
The talent level is there though and they do have a decent defense already.
    Not quite yet though.

I would just say scrap both O and D-Lines.
Other then that could be a sleeper.

I'm still not sold on Ja-Russell. Javon Walker is (excuse the pun) beat up & the O line is horrible. On the D side of the ball, they should be ok, but the O is lackluster. McFadden will be solid, but has to split time with Fargas. I think they will finish somewhere around 5-11, 6-10 if they are lucky.

    - As for sleeper....I think the Saints may surprise. Sure, they were favorites a year ago & underachieved, but we can't overlook these guys...

Oaklands Defense is a very good unit. They are underratted. I think they have one of the best LB corps in the league ( 3rd or 4th best) A Good Secondary ( 7-8th best)

    Re: raiders a sleeper

I am with midgensa in that they could surprise by going 4-2 in their division.
However division games are one of the most difficult to predict.
So they could be just as easy 2-4.

Other than the Patriots, I don't see a NON-Winnable game on their schedule outside the division which include games against: Bills, Saints, Jets, Ravens, Falcons, Panthers, Dolphins, Texans, Buccaneers.

Sure some of those games will be tougher than others, but ALL of those teams have questions about them.
Hell half of them don't know who their Starting QB is.
Delhomme is comin of elbow surgery. Give them 3-3 in their division, a loss to NE and I can see them going anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6.

Keep in mind that the NFC South has flip flopped division winners and division basement dwellers each of the past two seasons.
You never know what is gonna come out ofthat division. :P
