Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports the Oakland Raiders have signed free agent RB Adimchinobe Echemandu (Vikings) to their practice squad.

If they claim him off wavers I thought they have to sign him to their active roster.

No, if they grab him from a practice squad then they have to put him on the active roster.
Waivers are open game, sign him up for your flag football team if you have the coin.

Sucks to see him go, but at least he got picked up by somebody.

It's too bad the league can't address this and make it where a team can only sign a player off waivers to their active roster.
Then if they want to put him on their practice squad they'd have to waive him first.
The Vikings couldn't just put him on their practice squad, why should the Raiders be able to?
If a team wants to put him on an active roster that would be best for the player.

Oh well... too bad.

I don't totally understand all of that, but the Vikings did have the first option to sign him on their practice squad, but since they didn't he hit the open market.
The Raiders chose to have him as on of their eight.
Seems like a fair shake.
The only benefit of having someone on your practice squad versus on the wire is that the team grabbing him has to put him on their active roster or else he stays on the practice squad.
I have no idea if that made sense.
