Purplepat's Picks of the Week - Week 3

Well, last week I predicted I'd lose and I did. Little did I know that the Vikings being routed (I had them at +9) would be my only miss out of 8 picks in my Sunday portion of a 9 team parlay. The Cowboys choking one away to the Skins on MNF made the whole thing academic, although had the Vikings won with the +9, I would have made a hedge bet taking the Redskins to make sure that I won money. Oh well...woulda, coulda, shoulda. At least I hit SportingbetUSA's free $10 bet on the number of completions Pennington would have on Sunday, again effectively negating my parlay loss.

    So to recap,

Week 1- Five team parlay, four of which lost outright.
Week 2 - Nine team parlay, hit seven

Net Loss for Season (on parlays only) - $20.00

Time for a winning week, so we'll keep the parlay small. I really like 4 games this week, but figured if I went with four one would lose so I cut one out.

    $10 to win $66.92

    Bengals -3 @ Bears
    Panthers -3 @ Dolphins
Seahawks -3 vs Cardinals (bought down line from -6 to -3)

Bengals have shown plenty of offensive firepower the first two weeks. The Bears two opponents have not. Bengals will outclass the Bears.

Panthers recovered from opening day loss at home to the Saints by dominating the Patriots. Dolphins returned to earth after heady week 1 upset. Panthers are balanced and talented enough to take by a FG on the road.

Denny Green's Cardinals haven't shown much offense yet this season, and the defense hasn't been much to write home about either. Cardinals have been a horrible road team. Seahawks play well enough at home to beat the Cardinals by a FG.

    The one I left out:

    Buccaneers -3 @ Packers

Packers offense hasn't scored much against the Browns and Lions defenses. How do you think they will fare against the Bucs? Bucs offense isn't scary, but Packers defense is nothing special. With Walker gone, Franks hurt if even available, and the Packers interior line playing poorly, I see three losses in a row for the green and gold.

I usually dont bet on the NFL because its pretty random but this week I bet on Bengals, Cheifs, Colts, Panthers, and Tampa for a 5 team parlay.

If I had hit all 9 selections on my parlay, my $10 bet would have turned into $210. Of course, I think the whole thing was a 6 pt. teaser parlay, which brought the odds WAY DOWN. If I had picked against the established spread, the payout would have been much higher.

Had the Vikings not lost by more than 9, I would have $10 riding to pay $210 total for the Cowboys to win Monday night. I forget what the money line on the Redskins was, but I probably would have bet $50 on the Skins to win. That way, Skins win, I probably profit by $50-$75, Cowboys win, I profit by $150. Oh well, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
