    Projected Offensive Line rankings

    2012 Offensive Line Rankings - Matchups - Rotoworld.com

Interesting look on where we stack up on the OL going forward.

I always like to have a few of these bookmarked for fantasy draft time...

    23. Minnesota Vikings

    LT: Matt Kalil
    LG: Charlie Johnson*
    C: John Sullivan*
    RG: Geoff Schwartz
    RT: Phil Loadholt*

Top reserves: G/C Brandon Fusco, OT Patrick Brown, G/C Joe Berger, G/T Jose Valdez, OG Chris DeGeare, OT DeMarcus Love.

Overview: While Pro Football Focus graded Minnesota's O-Line 16th in pass blocking last season, Football Outsiders had it dead last in the NFL. My eyes told me the latter was more accurate. Though losing LG Steve Hutchinson hurts, GM Rick Spielman took steps to fix his front five by signing underrated Schwartz on the cheap and drafting Kalil over Morris Claiborne. Johnson's best position is left guard, so ultimately the Vikings improved at three positions. Already one of the league's premier hole-clearing lines, this group should at least give Christian Ponder a fighter's chance in pass protection. All in all, it has potential to be far better than this ranking.
Personally, I think we've got a real good chance to come out better than 23...I mean, we were 2nd in yards/rush last season, that's got to count for something, its half the battle!

I'm not buying that the Packers are no.1 tho. Obviously their top-notch WR core and QB make them look good, but it could easily take a while to get all those new pieces to gel, and the NFC North is stocked full of pass rushers!
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

Lol. I was under the impression that kalil made us an instant top 5 OL.

Its the same way Favre made us look like a top-10 OL in 09.

If Ponder picks up his level of play and AP returns to form, I'm sure you'll be hearing about us having a much improved line. If they don't, well there's only so much a single LT can do on a line full of bums.

I think you're being overly harsh thinking the OL is "full of bums." Obviously, Sully has earned some respect or he wouldn't have gotten his extension early. And, Charlie has more experience and seems a better fit for guard, so Kalil improves 2 positions, leaving a battle for RG between four guys, and us hoping Loadholt will be a lil more motivated since this is his last year under contract. Big Mac's best year was his contract year, I just hope too much of his, I wanna be a fat, lazy rap star act didn't rub off on the Load! (haha, accidental play on words!)

Add in some much needed speed at WR, and I think we can realistically hope for middle of the pack in sacks allowed while staying top 5 in yards/rush given the skillz we've got between AP, Toby, and Percy.

Yeah ... I am actually happy with the offensive line moves.

At least they finally ADDRESSED IT. There is not a whole lot else they could do. Schwartz could be a solid pick up and drafting Kalil is a major step forward for us in the trenches.

We might not be a great line next year, but we should be vastly improved. Remember, QBs are often what ends up getting O-lines labeled as good. People talked about the Colts line for years, but everyone knew that Manning was going to make any line he had look good. Same with Brady in New England.

We definitely have addressed it ... and hopefully it will show some huge strides.

I agree. It might not be the best OL in the NFL, but I think it is light years ahead of where it was last year.

Our OL is still going to be do-do cakes.

It definitely could be ... but I don't know. How good our "line" is might have a lot more to do with how good Ponder actually is.

If Ponder has not grown at all ... the line is going to look much worse than it is. I think CJ is a very capable LG and Kalil is the real deal ... so we should be good on the left side. I also like Sully, even though he is not spectacular I think he is solid.

Load will still be getting beat like a rented mule all season long.

    Premiere hole clearing line?

They must just infer that from Peterson's rushing stats, I don't see it.

I agree with that assessment. If we had a premiere hole clearing line, AD would be getting around 2,000 yards per season.

Loadholt will be the weak link on the O-line this year. At least Ponder will have a fighting chance as he'll be able to see the defender simply run around Loadholt. Although he was able to see it last year & Loadholt still gave up 9.5 sacks.
