Re: Predicting the NFL Season....
I'm sure the Lions will find a way to lose an extra game somehow.
But I'd bet they'll be above us in the standings.
I think we're going to go 5-11.
And I'm considering the blasphemous strategy of using the Vikings as one of my teams I consistently pick against in my elimination pool.
Man, I hope I'm wrong, but I have no confidence in Childress's offense - not the players but the offensive."This is a kick-ass offense" - BC

Re: Predicting the NFL Season....
I agree with the original post, mostly. I do think the 49ers will be much better this year, and I also don't think the Patriots will win 14 games. The reason is Moss and Stallworth are really not "complete" receivers. They are guys who go long "when they want", but not over the middle, and thus I view both of them more as "decoys" than complete receivers like Holt, Stever Smith, Reggie Wayne, Hines Ward, etc. Maybe "decoy" is too strong a term. They obviously do have flashes of greatness every third game. The Patriots lost Corey Dillon, they main blitz pickup blocker.
My pick is Colts over the Saints in the Show.
I think that Norv Turner is a good offensive coordinator for the Chargers, but also that he doesn't have what it takes to beat coaches like Dungy or Belicheck and get to the Show.
I agree that the Vikings will be around 8-8 or maybe 9-7, unfortunately. We seem to be in a "building phase". I find it kind of annoying that ownership thinks that way, and the coaches, and the fans, etc. I personally think that in today's NFL, you try to win now, i.e. bring in an experienced QB like McCown, Schaub, Harrington, etc. This idea that it is o.k. to go 8-8 for a couple of years, and then start winning in 2010 irks me.
I understand that you have to build through the draft, and that is fine, but the pressure in the modern NFL is just too great to not try to make the playoffs this year.
The Bears will win the NFC North. They also have a QB that is holding them back from that next level (a Super Bowl win).

Additionally, who says we are content with going 8-8 and were did you get 2010 as our goal?
This organization will try to win every year.
Its just a different approach.
We will continually be building a team under this new concept and not just trying to buy a superbowl and then be in cap problems for a century or so.
You want to win with old has been vets go cheer for the Skins.
No wait, that plan doesn't work either does it.

Re: Predicting the NFL Season....
Boy, I really DON'T have a lot of faith in Childress' play-calling right now. I think 9-7 or 10-6 is unrealistic. Our D will keep us in most games, but I see 7-9.

I say we go 5-10. I'm not sold on Chilly. I have high hopes for T-Jack, maybe a little too high. AP will be awesome... WILL BE... And wide recievers... What wide recievers?

Re: Predicting the NFL Season....
As a non-Vikings fan, I must say I am impressed with the efforts to keep the expectations realistic (we Eagles fans are pretty awful with that).
The original poster with the Vikes in the playoffs, well...
the homerism is strong in this one.
Frankly, if you guys make it to 8-8, no playoffs, consider that a very successful season.
IMO, the focus should be on answers to the following questions:
1) Does Jackson develop and begin to show command of the offense and playmaking ability?
2) Is AP the real deal?
You should have an answer for that by mid-season.
3) Are any of your WRs keepers?
4) Is the defense still tough against the run and is the pass defense improving?
I.e. how much of a loss was DC Tomlin?
If you can answer "yes" to 3 of those 4 by the end of the season, even if you only win 5, take it as a good sign.
