    "PEP" not starting?

    From Profootballtalk

    SABAN TRYING TO PIPP PEP?

In response to the news that Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper might miss Sunday's game due to a shoulder injury, we're suspicious.
    A little.

Could it be that coach Nick Saban is looking for a way to give backup Joey Harrington a try without actually benching Culpepper?

    Think about it.
    Culpepper is playing like crap.
Harrington perhaps was the victim of bad coaching in Detroit.
So with a season of high expectations sliding down the tubes, maybe it's time to see if Harrington can turn the thing around.

If he can't, then Culpepper's "injury" is healed.
If Harrington can, then maybe Culpepper is a modern day Wally Pipp.

I think Pepper plays better after being benched one game. Maybe he is just trying to motivate him.

It maybe moreso because he holds on to the ball to long rather than his injured shoulder.

He has taken a league high 21 sacks in just 4 games.

Some of the Phins fans started their Joey chants after game 2, sound familiar?
He is getting sacked left and right.
The general consensus on the Phins board is that he holds on to the ball for too long and is not mobile.
Personally, I think they started him way too early, should have waited until ~ wk 7.
I hope he keeps playing and is a backup in the CFL next year.

I honestly don't think that Harrington is the answer for the Dolphins either... Culpepper won't have a long career, I give it maybe a few more seasons, and he will be done in the NFL.. He has had some serious injuries, and he just doesn't look like the Daunte of old.. If his career does go longer then a few more seasons, it will be as a backup.. You heard it here first folks..

I definatley think they should start Joey Harrington on Sunday.

Most of Daunte's struggles are his own fault, because he's holding onto the ball too long, but some of the blame has to be directed at the Dolphins offensive line.

I think Daunte is lost now that he can't run the way he used to. As much as I dislike the Dolphins, I hope Joey takes his job and plays well. I've always wanted to see Harrington do well, I'm just glad it's not for the Lions!

Daunte's difficulties were showcased last night on the NFL Network.
Pat Kirwin watched film while Daunte had Moss and after Moss, with both the Vikes and the Dolphins.
His analysis concluded something that is quite simple, and logical.
Daunte was used to seeing rolled coverage...safety rolled to Moss to protect against the deep ball.
When he didn't see the coverage rolled, he heaved the ball to Moss.
When it was rolled, roughly 75% of the time, according to Kirwin, he had at least one receiver with single coverage; many times Cris Carter.
Not a bad way to come into the league; throwing to two future Hall of Famers, and an awesome offensive line.

Kirwin's analysis certainly agrees with the aforementioned posts stating Culpepper is simply holding on to the ball too long.
It takes the comment much further and concludes that Culpepper, the beginning of last year and this year, Culpepper is basically learning how to read defenses; just like most quarterbacks who don't have two HOF receivers and 4 pro-bowl offensive linemen in front of him at the beginning of a career.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Robert Smith.
Culpepper's success was clearly situational; now he must learn how the other guys play the game.

Kirwin concludes that Culpepper's career will be resurrected, however, he states that it will take time.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

Yeah, I saw this last night on NFL Network.

It was a really accurate assessment by Pat Kirwin.
