    Patriots cut Brandon Meriweather

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/03/pats-give-the-boot-to-brandon-meriweather/

Two straight Pro Bowls and 64 appearances in 64 career games ultimately wasn’t enough to save safety Brandon Meriweather. The Patriots have parted ways with the first-round pick from the 2007 draft, according to a league source.

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

Oh my god Spielman. A golden opportunity just fell in our lap. Now make it happen!

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

I think were more likely to pick up Brandon Tate, big names getting released in NE. If we're not 100% confident in Berrian, Camarillo, or our return game, Tate's a viable, and most importantly young, talent.

Considering how much uncertainty we have at Safety I would hope the front office takes a serious look at picking this guy up. Was a pro bowler the past two seasons and I really haven't seen much of Tyrell Johnson that I've liked. Seriously, run don't walk to sign this guy and to put him in our struggling secondary! Make it happen Spielman.

They were talking about him and his "probowls" on either sportscenter or NFLN (I think it was NFLN) and they said probowls don't count for anything anymore especially with Meriweather.

Said it in another thread....Any time the Pats release a player, I instantly say, must because he doesn't have the stuff.

Usually they will trade anyone that has any sort of talent left and release players that don't have any.

    My vote....Nope.

Is Brandon Meriweather a Good Fit for the Vikings?

Vikings fans’ ears probably pricked up higher than most when they heard that Meriweather was available, given the mess the safety position has become.

    Thanks for the read Singer...

I grant you that the Cover-2 as the Vikings play it is not necessarily a defense that allows for lots of safety freelancing – just ask Darren Sharper about that –
Unless we change our scheme, it really doesn't matter what S we bring in. The scheme just doesn't warrant/lend to the big plays that almost all of you crave.

The author does say that maybe Pagac would "Design a defense to match his talents".....You know, change the scheme for one guy and make all the others learn it.....

....seriously, who really think thats gonna happen with the season getting ready to start.

Well it is a moot point since Chicago picked him up and decided they could tweak their C2 to use him.

Tweaking the scheme to allow the S to freelance more, doesn't necessarily change the scheme for everyone else on defense.

C'mon Marty, you know better than that.

It will be interesting to see how it works out.
