Re: Panthers sign Moose, Cut Carr

Poor David Carr. He is officially receiving the ignominious honor of being mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Ryan Leaf.

Given the fact that Chilly "struggles with his release", I would imagine that between the two, we would be much more likely to see Lemon...
Plus there is that dreaded word known as potential that Carr apparently no longer has.
    Backups either way.

but do you think it would be worth picking him up if he came cheap as strictly a backup??
I know he can't manage to be a starter, as he's had multiple chances. but seeing as how the FA market for qb's is thin, he could be a viable option as a backup, since we dropped Holcomb.
I think at this point I would rather have Cleo Lemon, but I would not be terribly opposed to Carr.
As I recall it loooked to be shown that many of the sacks that Houston gave up were due to Carr rather than the OL - as the improvement in sacks given up reduced after Schaub moved to Houston. Do we really want a backup who could spend more time on his back looking at the Metrodome roof than standing?
    who else would you recommend?
The whole reason he'd be a backup is because he isn't fit to start.
It's not every day someone like Brad Johnson will sign as a backup.

Him on his back is better than when we had Holcomb landing on his head.

    ;D
Waiting for them to acknowledge Chilly was spot on same as they quickly castigate him.
Ah, my friend, lets not forget that some scout probably actually had some tape on the guy that the staff analyzed together that lead to the decision that his mechanics were flawed for the scheme.
    ;D

    But your right.
They (the crotchsniffers) need to all jump up and acknowledge that he was a waste of a pick, as the Panthers quickly realized.
I wanted the Vikings to get Carr last offseason and I still think they should have. Do not think that because he didn't work out in Carolina that this vindicates Childress at all. Sure, maybe the Vikings front office recognized Carr was not good. But we ended up waiting so long to get a QB that we had to trade for one late.

Instead of signing Carr to a free agent contract, we traded for Kelly Holcomb who is now out of uniform as well.

So if we signed Carr, we would probably be at the same point as we are now, except with an extra draft pick.

thats true but I would at least like a backup who has some chance of staying vertical long enough to get a pass away.. Carr doesn't fit into that category IMO

I have a horrible gut feeling that we sign Carr...

I assume you're talking about Todd Collins, and not Kerry Collins.
Although I wouldn't mind seeing them in purple, Collins will probably manage to find someone who will pay him a lot, since he did pretty well at the end of the season.
I wouldn't want to overpay for any of these guys, and I'd only want Carr IF he came cheap.

Although I didn't know Voleck is a FA, and would actually not mind seeing him here.
He's pretty good, and when he had to play in Tennessee he did pretty well actually.
    career rating of 84.9

I have now changed my view, I want Volek as a backup or potential starter.
