Updating previous reports, WBAY.com reports police say the fight that caused Green Bay Packers rookie WR Cory Rodgers to be arrested began when Rodgers refused to sign autographs and buy drinks for people in the bar. Nearly two dozen police officers were called in to handle the situation. When they arrived, they heard gunshots. Police say they found Rodgers in the back seat of a car with an empty handgun.

According to the police, Rodgers fired two shots into the air during the melee. He faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a weapon within city limits. The team says it's aware of the incident and will let the legal process run its course.

    Staff, wire reports

Wide receiver Cory Rodgers, whom the Green Bay Packers selected in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft, was arrested Thursday night after police in Fort Worth, Texas, had to break up a brawl between gang members and former Texas Christian University football players.

According to Fort Worth’s NBC affiliate, KXAS Channel 5, which first reported the story, police officers arrived shortly before 2 a.m. at the Stone Canyon Club, where police said 50 to 60 people were involved in a brawl.

Police said the fight started after Rodgers, 23, refused to sign autographs and buy drinks for people in the bar.

Patrons were seen using pool cues and beer bottles as weapons, police said. One officer sustained minor injuries after being struck by a beer bottle.

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy were unavailable for comment on Friday, but the team issued a short statement through a team spokesman, which read: “We are aware of an incident involving Cory Rodgers Thursday night in Texas, and are in the process of gathering additional information.”

Rodgers participated in the Packers’ first two minicamps and is scheduled to be in Green Bay when organized team activities begin Wednesday. Rodgers is considered a front-runner to return kicks and punts for the Packers this season.

According to the report, nearly two dozen officers were brought to the scene to end the fight, the second brawl at the bar in as many weeks, police said.

Fort Worth police officers said they then heard gunshots from behind the building, and found Rodgers in the back seat of a car with an empty handgun. Officers said Rodgers fired two shots into the air.

Rodgers and former TCU teammates Quentily Harmon and Eric Buchanan were arrested. Buchanan and Harmon were charged with public intoxication, while Rodgers faces more serious charges of possession of a concealed weapon and discharge of a weapon within city limits.

Fort Worth police said six people were arrested, including the three athletes. The other three were disabled with Taser guns before being arrested.

Packers | Rodgers charged with two misdemeanors
    Sat, 27 May 2006 11:54:09 -0700

Traci Shurley, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Green Bay Packers WR Cory Rodgers is facing misdemeanor charges of unlawfully carrying a firearm and unlawfully discharging a firearm. Rodgers was released from the Mansfield Jail Friday, May 26, after posting $2,000 bail. Fort Worth police said the brawl started after Rodgers refused to sign autographs and buy drinks for people in the bar. Patrons of the club were seen using pool cues and beer bottles as weapons, according to police. One officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by a beer bottle and nearly two dozen officers were brought to the scene to end the fight. Texas Christian S Eric Buchanan and WR Quentily Harmon were in the front seat of the car Rodgers discharged his firearm from. Both were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and released. They told police the gun was fired "to scare off a group of males who had thrown beer bottles at Rodgers and the other two individuals after he refused to give them some type of autograph," according to police spokesman Lt. Dean Sullivan.

BS! If it's about the Packers, it qickly get's swept under the rug.

If it' about the Vikings, it will be brought up for years.

If a Viking player so much as jaywalks, it tends to make national news.

    How many others besides me remember this incident;

    Marcol Is Charged

    UPI

Misdemeanor charges were filed today against Chester Marcol, former Green Bay Packer place-kicker. He was accused of reckless use of a weapon and eluding the police, after having been arrested Sunday at the home of his estranged wife here.
