Franchise tag is the average of the top 5 at the position?
Which would be WAY to high for a guy having an average year at OLB and season ending knee surgery.

I don't see Kampman wanting to continue to play OLB when as a DE he would be more valuable, given sacks are highly prized.

Pack will let Kampman go into FA and get nothing for him.
In all probability yes.. hence why I was in support of trading him at the deadline.. again now both parties are in a tough spot.. Kampman trying to get his last large payday and the Packers in a crux of having to apply some type of tag.

But just because we franchise him at a top 5 tender doesn't mean that the other team has to pay him in that range.. example from the Pack.. Corey Williams two years ago.. franchise, dealt and signed to a large deal but not near top 5 money.

Simply put.. the Packers won't tag him because their ability to move them and the cost if they get stuck with him will be too high..
I know you can process that, but can Teddy process that?
    LOL!
Teddy is still trying to process why Favre didn't take the $20 mill "stay home" bribe.

Just to be fair here.. the 20 million was the brain child of CEO Mark Murphy and the board of directors.. hatched with really two primary objectives in mind.. to keep the extended revenue of Brett Favre exclusive to the Packers as his only team and to avoid seeing him in purple.

Teddy had little to do with the marketing... cough... bride... deal.

Ray Edwards is on pace for almost 70 tackles and 10 sacks this year coming from the left side.
We don't need to upgrade over him.

I think Edwards is coming in to his own this season. He has had a couple of big games recently. I like building through the draft and he was a late round pick from a few years ago. Kampman is the better pass rusher but Edwards is the better run stopper. We also have Robison making great strides behind Edwards.

We also have a lot of money invested in D-line already. I'm sure we will need some free-agent cash to extend some other contracts as well. Ben Leber, Chestor Taylor and Ryan Longwell comes to mind. We might also want to extend Greenway and Rice's rookie contracts next year to avoid a contract logjam in a couple of years too.

Kampman is a luxury we can live without.

Packers could always use the transition tag on Kampman instead of the franchise tag, they could match any offer from other teams to keep him if they like the dollar value and there aren't any poison pills.

Just wanted to say that. If we transition him to just trade him later one, we're bound to get some kind of poison pill in there. Like the team that signs him has to put him on the field for 10% of the defensive snaps of their own team in the next 2 years or something.

ray edwards is playing well right now. id def wait till the season is over and see where he stands and decide if we need kampman or edwards. to be honest im more leaning on the side of keeping edwards especially after kampmans knee. most players take a while to recover from that injury and play the same way they played before the injury. i dont even think EJ has put in the same production that he put in during his 2007 season

We don't need him and our Packers castoff quota has already been met.

I like Edwards but arguing Ray is close to Kapman is just as crazy as saying we didn't need Allen because we had Ray.
