FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 18, 2006) -- Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad Carroll was arrested after allegedly arguing with a police officer in a Fayetteville bar.

Carroll, 22, was charged with third-degree assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and refusal to submit to arrest, Washington County sheriff's Sgt. Donna Smith said. He was released from the sheriff's custody on $1,550 bond.

Each of the misdemeanors is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Carroll, who played at Arkansas, is scheduled to appear in Fayetteville District Court on March 10.

Packers spokesman Jeff Blumb had no comment.

Police were sent to question Carroll and former Arkansas teammate Dedrick Poole after a bouncer at a bar said he had gotten into an argument with the two men.

After an officer found them at another bar, he asked the two for a statement. Carroll yelled that he knew his rights and was leaving, police said. When Carroll began to leave, Officer Hunter Carnahan put his hand up to stop him. Police said Carroll slapped the officer's hand.

Carnahan told Carroll to put his hands behind his back, but Carroll refused, police said. The officer then pulled out an electric stun device and told Carroll he would use it if Carroll didn't put his hands behind his back.

Carroll started all but one game for the Packers last season, with 40 tackles and two interceptions.

Looks like Carrolls problems on the field with his hands all over receivers has gotten him into trouble off the field.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad Carroll was arrested Thursday night after an altercation with police outside of a bar in Fayetteville, Ark.

Carroll, who played football at the University of Arkansas, was in Fayetteville visiting friends when the incident occurred.

According to Carroll’s attorney, Sam Hilburn, Carroll was charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. Carroll was kept in a holding cell for 15-20 minutes before being released on a $1,500 bond.

Hilburn said the disagreement began at a piano bar when a bouncer wouldn’t let Carroll and his friends in.

“They said it was full, but it wasn’t full,” Hilburn said. “One of the guys got into a disagreement with the bouncer and punches were thrown, but Ahmad had nothing to do with that. Ahmad just walked away.”

After the incident, Hilburn said Carroll and his friends went to another bar where they were confronted by police.

“After Ahmad said he didn’t know anything about what happened at the other bar, one of the cops told him he was free to go, and when Ahmad tried to walk out of the bar, the other cop wouldn’t let him go,” Hilburn said. “He grabbed Ahmad’s arm. Ahmad jerked his arm away and then the cop pulled a taser out before he arrested him.”

Hilburn said he’s already talked to three witnesses who said that while some of the people in Carroll’s party had been drinking, that Carroll said he had not had anything to drink.

Hilburn said he didn’t thing anything serious would happen as a result of the arrest.

“It’s not serious. He didn’t do anything,” Hilburn said. “After they released him, he was signing autographs for the other policemen before he left.”

Now that is what I hate.

Had this happened in Minneapolis & with a Vikings player, the media would be calling for his head & wanting the trouble maker booted off the team.

How is hitting a police officer, even if he only slapped him, not a big deal?

So did Lofton, Jefferson & Cade.

I don't think they were even suspended for one game.
