Re: THE OFFICIAL NFL TEAMS FREE AGENT SIGNINGS THREAD!
Apparently the Bills also signed Derrick Dockery to a 7-year, $49 mil deal and the Browns signed
Eric Steinbach to a 7-year, $49.5 mil deal...so we really weren't crazy to steal Hutch from the Seahags last season!!BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: THE OFFICIAL NFL TEAMS FREE AGENT SIGNINGS THREAD!
I guess the best we can come up with is some other teams backups. . .
this from yahoo.
I hope we have a killer draft.
EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA (TICKER) -- The Minnesota Vikings landed a pair of free agents Saturday, signing tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and linebacker Vinny Ciurciu.
Terms of both deals were not disclosed.
Shiancoe, 26, spent his first four seasons with the New York Giants, serving as a backup to Jeremy Shockey.
He has 35 catches for 253 yards and three TDs in 64 career games.
The 26-year-old Ciurciu played his first four seasons with Carolina, registering 77 tackles in 57 career games.

im really glad we picked this guy up..when jason glenn went down last year, our kcik coverage units were atrocious..we really needed to get a special teams tackler like this, so im happy with that signing..he has also started some games in place of injured starters, so hes got some experience and can add depth to the defense as well..good signingI guess the best we can come up with is some other teams backups. . .

as for shiancoe, we will find out when draft time comes around..if we draft a TE 2nd round, then visanthe is only here to be a backup, which i kinda hope happens, even tho he received wayy way too much money for a guy thats only caught 36 passes in his careerPeople who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.

a.
A aging veteran who had a great career but is now aging and often injured causing his production to fall off to a point that the team is letting him go instead of overpaying him.
(Upside - Fans are happy cause you signed a BIG NAME player - Downside - takes up huge amounts of cap so you can't keep your young developmental players on the team cause other teams sign them away.
Ultimately the team starts to suck on a continue basis because you are out of funds and can't develop from within)
b.
A young prospect that has been in the shadows of that veteran that has been coached and worked and is now ready to start to shine as a starter for several years.
(Upside - You save dollars on a prospect that appears to fit your system, has been coached by NFL coaches and has some NFL experience, you can get rid of him if he doesn't work out as no contract is gauranteed in this league.
Down side - Might not be what your scouts said he was.
Fans who don't know squat about the NFL don't understand why you signed this guy instead of the Option A guy)
c.
A player who is in the middle of his career that still has some good years ahead of him but is a problem child with off field issues that could/will prevent him from playing.
(Upside - Ready to play and will contribute right away as long as he can stay on the field. Downside - could cause division in the locker room undermining the whole team concept.
Could go rent a boat and give the whole organization, including fans a black eye)
HMMMMMM
:
I will take option B or at least 2 or three of them.
From a $$$$ standpoint it makes more sense to throw a few of them into the mix, and keep the ones that work out and shed the ones who don't.
Have faith in our coaching staff and our scouts.
They will find us guys just like they did last year that you won't understand why they signed them but who will ultimately fit into the grand scheme of things and make the team better.
At least that is what I am hoping.
;D
I can't keep buying the amounts of Carona I do so I can tolerate watching the boys..... ;D
;D
;D

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
