Yeah.No matter how obvious a joke it was, a sports league's entire integrity is based on the impartiality of its refs. The NFL had to come down hard on this joke. Any of the other leagues would have done the same.
Because destroying the tapes from the 'Patriot-gate' scandal instead of releasing them didn't do a number on the league's integrity..
:
Chad ruining the league's integrity?
No.
Jonny Jolly?
Yes.
Even the Williams Wall fighting their suspensions?
Yes (the people that don't take the time to do any sort of research on this issue view them as cheaters, no matter the circumstances).
Buress?
Stallworth?
Even T.O.?
Those guys are doing waaaay more damage to the league's precious integrity than Chad ever has.
I LOVE THE SMELL OF VICTORY IN THE MORNING AIR.

But you're right, the Commissioner of the NFL is by far doing the most damage to the integrity of the NFL.Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Re: Ochocinco fined $20k for 'Bribe'
With all the donations Chad is making, maybe he could buy use a new stadium.
"There are 3 things that sell in America:
Violence, sex, and drugs.
The only way you are going to make this game more appealing to the public than it was before is if there are on field orgies at halftime and the domes become massive opium dens."

He's doing what he had to in the Williams Wall situation, illogical as it is, to force some national policy/legislation/agreement.
Plus, they need all the fines to help pay for the legal expenses fighting this case.
Ocho is a smart guy, $20K, for MASSIVE press on a little stunt that most people find funny.
Myself I like how the ref does the "Speak to the hand" gesture when Ocho comes up.
I like the less whining Chad and the more flippant one.
He's still delusional, but now it's entertaining and playing good football.

Re: Ochocinco fined $20k for 'Bribe'
Ocho is [s]an idiot[/s], excuse me, not very bright!
His humor is prop related.
If he just said it as a joke to the ref and only a few people heard it and it passed as a joke
He might have got by with it.
He had the dollar to make a spectacle out of it.
Really?
He deserves it.
Does someone know........ the answer...... I think that the fines go to charity, the guys on NFLN and on Sirius were joking that Ocho is the biggest contributor to charity.
If this happened in a court room, he would immediately be in contempt.
If you did this in class at college, the professor would more than likely report it so they don't get in trouble and then you would end up in the dean's office.
Joke or not, it just opens up so many avenues of thought that are not necessary.
Joke or not, bribes are linked to scandal.
Joke or not, it is approaching crimes on a federal level.
As soon as I saw that video with the dollar in his hand, I immediately said he can't do that.
I even knew that he was joking in my mind.
I am totally not surprised about the outcome and the fine.

I would get a big laugh and the prof would say "NO, but studying for once would".
There was no way anyone with a sense of humor would take Ocho seriously.
Even if he had a $100,000, it's in the middle of the game, 70,000 in the stands, several TV cameras and thousands of other cameras, thus a JOKE.
Ocho isn't upset about the fine, I'm sure he expected it.
Ocho also matched the $20K to give to charity.

But if one end up in the dean's office, one shouldn't be surprised.
Mainly because the thought/action is unethical.
One should know that they are playing with fire.
Even Johnson said in the after the game interview that he shouldn't have done it.
One can not tell how someone will interpret what is said.
Delivery of a joke is everything.
At the very least, Chad is not good at telling a joke(s).
He sticks his foot in his mouth so much it is difficult to watch.
He shouldn't be telling any jokes.
It is great that we want to see the humor in it, but there are somethings that are not socially acceptable to joke about.
How do you think that Refs took that gesture?
It was only a dollars so it must have been known that it was a joke, right.
If someone came at me with a dollar and basically said this is the value I place on your job, I would find that insulting on top of the fact that someone was trying to tell me I was doing a crappy job that day.
Who was this suppose to be funny to?
Only the fan and Chad Johnson?
It is well known that if you do anything to criticize the officiating, you will be fined by the NFL.
It happens every week that someone gets fined.
If they make comments about the officiating, they know they are putting themselves in the eye of the NFL.
The sad part about this incident is that Chad Johnson didn't see this in his mind before he did it.

Re: Ochocinco fined $20k for 'Bribe'
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I really don't see what the fuss is over this.
In the end, its still just a game played for the fans entertainment.
That entertainment drives revenues that allow the owners to make money.
People tune in to watch him play and to see what he is gonna do next.
Would I want him on our team?
Probably not, but he is damn entertaining to watch. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
