Want a long-shot idea for filling the Packers' backfield void?

Try Onterrio Smith, the former Minnesota Viking who hasn't played in the NFL since he was busted by airport security with a device for beating drug tests in 2005.

Smith, 26, was an effective back for much of his two seasons with the Vikings, who took a chance on him in the fourth round of the 2003 draft. He had 1,646 combined rushing and receiving yards in 26 games despite splitting time with Michael Bennett and Moe Williams.

But he was suspended four games in 2004 for a substance-abuse violation; earned a one-year ban for another failed drug test in 2005, less than a month after he was caught with "The Original Whizzinator" at the Minneapolis airport; and was cut by the Vikings and the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a two-month span last spring.

His agent, Doug Hendrickson, filed reinstatement paperwork for Smith last week and believes the NFL will give him another chance.

"He's been out of the league two years, but you know the talent's there," Hendrickson said. "He's still young. A lot of teams need a back. I think someone will take a chance on him and bring him in to camp."

I'm glad Minnesota cut him, but I hope the Packers don't sign him.
I could just see him busting off a big game against us.

He was so out of shape he couldn't make the Blue Bombers, how does he think he is going to make it on an NFL team?

It's too bad, I thought that he was one of the top 5-6 RB's in the NFL.
What a waste of talent.
Just think with him and C. Taylor back there.
That duo would have been tough.
I liked the comment about him being kitty kat material.
I live in kitty town and all these kitty kat fans talk about how they kick us down here.
I have to hear it until we beat piss out of them again.
