No more NFL Europe
No more NFL Europa updates?

Apparently our Monday morning NFL Europa updates will be a thing of the past in 2008. According to Yahoo! Sports, the NFL is expected to cease operations of NFL Europa after 17 years because of increasing costs associated with running the league. The folks at profootballtalk.com had this story last week and had another good reason for why NFL Europa is about to be retired.
In the old days, NFL teams liked to send some of its players to the developmental league because it enabled them to get valuable experience. But with minicamps and organized team activities being so important now — much of the installation is done during this time period — being away from your team actually hurts more than it helps.

Hmm... Makes sense - it's GOTTA be expensive running that league...

Re: No more NFL Europe
Never really cared about it anyway.
Don't think I could name a team off the top of my head right now . . .

I'll be kind of bummed about it - I had an old friend playing in it this year (on Frankfurt), so I took more of an interest in it than years past.
The football was of decent quality, but it certainly wasn't easy to get into like the NFL was.

Re: No more NFL Europe
I wonder if they are doing this since they are trying to get overseas regular season games and maye even a couple teams in Europe or Asia.

I think it is a conspiracy to allow the Vikings to move back to their native Norway where they are making a new state of the art environmentally friendly, open air stadium that is powered by hydrogen and cow farts and all of the cheerleaders are Blonde and drop dead gorgeous.

=Z=NFL Europa folds after 16 years
Associated Press, Updated 34 minutes ago
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - The NFL folded its development league in Europe after 16 years Friday, calling the decision a sound business move that will allow for a stronger international focus on regular-season games outside the United States.
The announcement came less than a week after the Hamburg Sea Devils beat the Frankfurt Galaxy 37-28 in the World Bowl championship in Frankfurt before a crowd of 48,125. Five of the league's six teams are in Germany, with the other in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A statement on the German-language edition of the NFL's Web site said the NFL decided to concentrate its "strategies and resources" on regular-season games outside the United States in an effort to reach as many people as possible.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell thanked the fans for their support but said it was time to develop a new international strategy, terming the move to fold NFL Europa the "best business decision." The league reportedly was losing about $30 million a season.
"From now on we will focus on regular-season games and use new technologies to make NFL more popular worldwide," he said.
Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

I would take either over a blond any day.
