The Glazer family is trying to sell the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their NFL franchise. Tampa sports talk radio station WDAE broke the news.

Forbes valued the Buccaneers franchise at $1.085 billion in 2009.

The source of the Glazer family's trouble may be the UK soccer team it also owns, Manchester United.

That was a highly-leveraged buyout, and Man-U is now thought to be in as much as $1.8 billion debt.

That debt may be one reason the Buccaneers' payroll is an astounding $30 million under the NFL's salary cap. It's almost unheard of for NFL owners not to spend as much on salary as they can.

The Buccaneers are winless on the year.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

That is funny.... I just posted in the parity thread that I thought they were shedding dollars.

Now that this is posted, it reminds me of Red and how he had the cap
down while he was trying to
    sell the team..

I think it is a positive (Edit: for them to sell the team).
A new owner isn't handcuffed by the players he inherits.
They can build their own teams.
How many teams are sold when they are on top?
    LOL!

It wasn't but a couple of years back, maybe a couple of couple of years back that they were gung ho about the Bucs.
The Glazers were one of the proponents that got this NFL in England going.

I wonder if they are getting out of sports or just concentrating their efforts.
They did/or still do own part of Manchester United I think.

    Just did a search......

TAMPA - A group of British journalists arrived in Tampa last week to gather material for Sunday's National Football League matchup in London between the Buccaneers and the New England Patriots.

They toured the club's lavish facility and were granted private interviews with Bucs head coach Raheem Morris and veteran players Ronde Barber and Cadillac Williams.

But when they asked for a few minutes with Tampa Bay's reclusive owners, after a 5,000-mile journey overseas, they received a predictable response.

    Access denied.

Almost 15 years after purchasing the Buccaneers for $192 million, the Glazers find themselves being pilloried on both sides of the Atlantic.
